Motobilt instructions for their aftermarket diff covers state
M220 RBI (Model 44) Rear Axle – EDL Fluid Capacity: 3.06 Pints/1.45 Liters.
Do NOT fill to the top of the fill plug.

Not sure how to fill to the top of the fill plug, but when I installed their diff covers I overlooked this in their instructions and filled until just a small amount of fluid came out of the opening for the fill plug.

As others have said, don’t be afraid to remove the diff cover. The gasket is reuseable and you can inspect for wear.

Are you guys absolutely certain you don't have drain plugs? Every JL I've ever serviced had them. I haven't checked my 2024s yet, but service information is still showing a dain plug for the 210 front axle and 220 rear axle.

I took delivery of my 2021 JLU Willys sport in September of 21 and I have no drain plugs in either differential.

I changed the fluid at the recommended milage and capacity is listed, so use that.

The way I looked at it was it gave me a chance to inspect everything, clean and wipe everything down and while I was there I puff canned both with some gloss black paint.

Yes, it takes a little longer but if you are DIY person just plan for it. The only tool I needed was a cap to screw on the oil bottles that I could attach the rubber tube to.

Others have also posted on here a mfg that makes a oil squeeze pouch. Try looking that up if you need to.

Yep, 10mm socket and torque to 15 ft lbs+20° additional rotation. Pretty easy, especially since it’s a reusable gasket and no silicone to fight with when trying to pry the cover off.
