I got a really nice Katzkin leather set for my JLU as a gift and I am wondering if anyone had successfully installed them on their own?
I could no find a proper installation video online.
Shall I attempt it or shall I just find an installer?
If the latter, does anyone know a reputable installer in Orlando, FL.
When I was still in research mode, no one from the shop referenced on the Katzkin website called me back or emailed me back with details.

I didn't install mine originally, but I reinstalled them after I put in heated seats. The worst part is the hog rings that attach the leather to the foam. That is a PITA!

You tube has plenty of videos of people doing themselves.

That's for the JK. I could not find one for the JL. Looking at the set I have, it is significantly different from the JK and there are pockets (I believe for the airbags) I would want to do correctly. The package did not include any instructions

After reinstallation, was the leather still streched nicely?

Here it is after the install.

I’ve had mine for about 2 years, so it’s not perfect, but I don’t mind. It may have stretched a bit when I was trying to re-attach everything, but it tightens in the heat.

The last time I installed leather seats was a decade ago and I remember having very painful, sore and tender finger tips after 6 hours of labor. I'm trying to see what's the install cost on leather seats nowadays. See if it's worth the pain and suffering.

Don't know if it's a good idea, but have heard others used zip ties to replace the hog rings.

Any thoughts?

I did mine. It’s not hard but very very labor intensive. The hog rings are a pita, I used 80lbs zip ties for the install instead, since I didn’t want to deal with hog rings ever again. Zip ties also allow to make sure everything is lined up correctly before tightening them up.

I don’t see why zip ties wouldn’t work. Might actually be easier.

That's what I thought. I am planning on adding heated seats and zip ties seems like an option for replacing hog rings.

It’s really not that hard, just make sure you get a good set of hog ring pliers and cutters. Longer handled tools are better for this job. I swapped my cloth for factory leather.
How many hours did it take you?
