Only 5 days to install mods before we hit the road.

I purchased this Honda Generator: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QX22GCR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hopefully, it can run the AC if needed.

And this gas tank : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R6T3Y86/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We expect to boondock and off-grid most of the trip.

I've been struggling to find a solution to carrying the honda generator. I don't want it inside the TT, and there's no room up front.

I'm thinking of installing the gas tank on the tongue where the battery is, relocating the battery to the rear bumper inside a storage container that also carries the small generator.

If I put this weight on the back bumper - it will be almost 175lbs. Do I just offset that with additional weight forward the axle to get back to a better tongue weight - or does that not matter? I'm a noob, with lots of dumb questions

Tongue weight is very important. If the trailer does not have enough weight on the tongue to trailer will feel fishtailing-ish

Yes! I've seen this video - along with this emerging classic

So here's what I've done so far..

I've relocated the battery to the back, and bolted down the 15-gal fuel tank.

I installed these Safety Struts https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JM3GJD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And these Support Arms https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F2H6RFC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And finally This Box https://www.lowes.com/pd/craftsman-...VhVmGCh0QRwO8EAQYBCABEgITQPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

if you don't already have them, i would get the load leveler sway bars for the trailer to jeep. and a brake controller, of course.
i like the dual axle trailers, as it stops the trailer from wanting to rock up and down, so to speak.

one generator wont be able to run AC you need to run two. I recall the honda wattage not to be what it's rated at. I have the 2000 honda and sustained wattage output was 1600. Your 2200 will be more but figure 1700....unless of course there is something about the newer ones I dont know about.

Any RV store should be able to tell you what size generator will run your AC unit. I bought two and ran my AC, coffee maker and microwave at the same time.

BTW if I'm right and you need two dont take the one you bought back and buy one BIG unit. My bud did that and the bigger units are a pain to move around. The two hondas are like suit cases that you can put about anywhere.

Have fun on your trip. I came so close to going to newfoundland while on a trip to Nova Scotia. I still kick myself for not going.

Thanks - Great advice! I did install a load balancing hitch, and a brake controller - I found a great thread on this forum; the JL with tow package has a pre-wired connector that works with a slightly modified dodge ram cable. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jl-trailer-brake-controller.8378/page-2#post-720840

Unfortunately, my trailer is a single axle - we went to purchase a different one, but it weighed in at almost 2900lbs; but was a dual axle.. I decided on the smaller trailer, single axle - and think a big portion of the weight difference is in the axle itself. So go dual axles/more stability and their higher weight or single axle and lower weight. Probably comes down to preference and needs. But your point is valid and something I considered. Thanks!

On the generator - AC point.. All my research is consistent with your position. But I had one sliver of hope - the units on these tiny trailers are smaller than the specs we've all seen. So tonight, I had the time to get to test it.. The little honda generator was able to run the AC, and there was coolish air blowing. I was able to let it run in that setup for 20 minutes and it seemed to be working. I was excited. Nothing else was on to cause a load on the generator.
