My buddy is not a car geek like me, so I'm trying to help him out by listing it for him here. He has a really nice red 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Edition that has the 5.7L V8 with 138,500 miles. It has been a great car for him and his family but recently it started pinging. He took it in to the local Jeep dealer and they said $1,000 to diagnose (which he paid). They came back and said it needed a new cam shaft for $6,762.79. See the attached inspection screen captures to see the vehicle is in fact in good shape. The Kelley Blue Book value of the vehicle is somewhere between $8,500 and $9,200 (private party good to excellent). it doesn't make sense for him to fix it. He is just going to donate this vehicle unless someone out there wants buy it and fix it. To be worthwhile for him, he needs to get about $3,500 for the vehicle. If you can fix a camshaft, you can get a pretty good deal on an otherwise very clean vehicle. The car is very drive-able anywhere around Seattle/Tacoma/Everett but I would not drive it over a mountain pass.
