You would think tire manufacturers would know this stuff and offer more D and C rated tires. I mean seriously, has anyone here ever heard of saying, sonofabitch I wish I has some E rated tire so I could have a real crappy ride!
To the uneducated, can you elaborate? I had my wrangler for about 2.5 weeks from brand new with the stock duelers on it before I switched to K02's which are E rated. I didn't seem to notice much, if any difference... however I have minimal experience prior to this with any tires of this nature.

Thank you for any context you can give.

Well that is unfortunate, I really like these tires. I don't understand why they would want to kill off the DT lineup. I am in Canada so I have a dedicated set of winter tires and have no need for a set of summer tires that also happen to be branded with the 3PMSF like the regular K02's so that's why I leaned towards giving the DT's a try.

I know that it could be just marketing speak that they ever justified a need to create the DT version, could that be why they pulled the plug on them? Perhaps there just wasn't a lot of real world difference or value between the standard K02 and the DT version?
Unfortunately I'm just not sure as to the reason. The DT version did utilize a different tread compound, so I wouldn't think it has anything to do with marketing speak.

Yeah I understand that it used a more durable and stiffer compound... I was just trying to rationalize why they would abort the production on these, especially given how popular the K02 is. Either the DT model just wasn't selling enough, or the real world performance didn't provide enough of a difference between the two K02 models to justify further production... that's all I can come up with, but in the end who knows.

It's too bad, I would have bought another set of these for my jeep when these are worn out.

Anyways, thanks for the confirmation.

To generalize, the higher you go in alphabet (rating), the less compliant the tire will be, thereby transmitting more road noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) to the passengers. Can be mitigated somewhat by lowering the tire pressures somewhat, but at the possible expense to gas mileage and/or increased wear.

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately the tire size I chose (275/70/18) only came in E rated. I am kind of wondering what I am missing, but then again, if it's not broken...

Edit: what's NVG? Thanks

Vary the air pressure and you will notice no to little ride quality change from the C to E.

Have had two sets of KO2's on the JL. Great in wet and snow. Horrible on the muddy trails (even aired down) and sick of the rock slinging. Went to the Firestone MT2's and the thing just crawls like a billy goat in 4H up slick trails. Have not had in snow yet on the MT2's. The KO2's were C rated and the MT2's are E rated. At 32psi, cannot feel a difference to speak of on ride quality.

As far as vendors, DT has always been my go to on all our vehicles (We buy at least 1-2 sets of tires per year). The MT2's came direct from Firestone but DT services them and will probably have the next set for me.

Happy to help and if we receive any addition details we'll be sure to post up!

pretty sure he meant NVH which stands for noise vibration harshness
Yep, and edited. Sorry, 13 years in the Army where I commonly wore Night Vision Goggles, lol!

Great conversation everyone. I found a set of D2 tires I am going to try. Figured it was a good compromise between the C2 I have now and the E2 I was going with. Will report back after install next week.
