Hello,

I recently took my 2019 JLU Sahara to get the service bulletin done for the steering box. (TSB 08-074-20). After 30 minutes of looking my jeep over the service department refused to service. The service advisor told me that the service bulletin was not showing up under my vin#. He said it was because my particular model was hydraulic instead electronic.
This sounds completely false to me. I thought all JLs were electronic and hydraulically assisted. Am I correct? Has anyone else had trouble getting this service done?

They are full of it, I would speak to the service manager and if that doesn’t work, contact jeep directly.

Be sure to complain that you have loose steering. That is one of the symptoms/complaints to make them do the TSB. Before you do though, are you sure that you currently have the aluminum box?

Have them look up TSB 08-003-21, it supersedes 08-074-20. Maybe that’s the issue.

Gotta mention that you have loose, sloppy steering too. Try another dealer if they give you any grief. We recently had the steering box replaced on my wife's '20 JLU.

Welcome to the forum.

Yup. That’s total BS.

My dealer sold me, and installed, a Mopar lift. It later used the fact that my Jeep was “modified” as an excuse to refuse to do the steering TSB. I ended having it it done by another dealer.

Copy of the TSB:

Jeep Wrangler JL Dealer issue - steering box TSB A8209F16-2E09-4F2D-A0E4-18B1A493EFE1

What vehicles qualify?

On the dealer’s computer screen, the TSB indicates that as long as the Jeep:
  • is a 2018-2020 model year,
  • has a Mopar lift, or a comparable aftermarket lift (i.e., under 3 inches) that has been professionally installed, and
  • the wheel alignment is within factory specifications
...it qualifies to have the TSB done.

How to trigger the TSB?

There are certain key words that the dealer expects to hear to trigger the TSB. These include “steering pull” and “excessive steering wander.”

Also, the dealer will need to verify that your Jeep is in fact doing these things.

What I would do:
  1. Speak with the Service Manager. Have him pull up and read the TSB in front of you
  2. If he appears unmoved, explain to him that if they give you grief, you will take your business elsewhere
  3. If he still refuses, I’d then try a different dealer
I wouldn’t involve corporate just yet. That’s a step of last resort. All it will do at this point is drag things out endlessly.

Good luck!

Where in FL are you? My buddy got his done in the Tampa area with no issue. I had mine done in SW PE and had no issue.

And your dealer is FOS - all JLs are electronic steering boxes with hydraulics. You either have the silver aluminum box and need the black cast iron, or you already have the black cast iron.

Oh, and my dealer did the V41 at the same time, and IDK if it is the box or damper, but my JEep drives way better.

Total BS. Check the TSB to be sure you have the latest, then go to a different dealer, take the TSB with you and state you are experiencing the issues as described in the TSB.

I had a similar issue with a dealer and chose another and used the method described above.

I am in champions gate so I went to the Posner Park CDJR since it is the closest location to me.

I'd suggest trying lakeland CDJR, I've heard good things. If you want to go further, I had 2 great purchases ('19 JLUR and '20 Pacifica) at Fitzgeralds in Pinellas, and I think my buddy had his steering box replaced by Dayton Andrews in St Pete, and that was back when it first came out and lots of dealers were making excuses.

I tried taking my Jeep to Napleton in Kissimmee and they are refusing to replace the steering box because they do not see it come up under my vin. The technician said I need an alignment.

This seems ridiculous to me. If there is an open service bulletin on the vehicle and the symptoms the customer is complaining about is on the bulletin, then you perform the service. They get paid to do it right? I had a C7 corvette and a ZL1 that had service bulletins on them and Chevy did them no questions asked.
