Will be ordering soon to replace my 85 CJ7 Lost long ago to bad choices in my youth. Curious what people think today about DD tire size max. I used to ride on 31s and that was a big tire 25 years ago. Jeep will be my DD and maybe wheel 10-15 times a year. Curious what thoughts are on 35" - 37"... will not need for highway much maybe just on way to wheel.

thanks

I think 35 is a good DD size but the problem is 37 looks so dam good on them. I’m in the same decision right now. I’m thinking 37 is so close to needing a gear change it may not be worth it.

I'm happy with my 315/70/17's. I guess the BFG's are on the smaller size for "35's" but my gas mileage hasn't been bad. I had about 18.5 city and 22 hwy.

I have the same problem, can't decide between 35's or 37's. Every JL I have seen with 2 inch lift and 37's looks exactly like what I want. Then I start overthinking the decision about potential loss in on road performance and braking, and I try to convince myself that 35's make more sense. Additionally, I have a 2017 JK with 6MT with 33's and 3:73 gears that performs so well I have regretted not going to 35's on it since the day the 33's went on. My Rubi is in KZ now, and I keep debating not making the same mistake with it. The 4:10's, auto trans, higher torque motor should easily be able to handle the 37's.

Still reading posts trying to find someone that regrets stepping up to 37's, haven't found that person (yet), I just don;t want to be the first one that does

In the same boat. Thinking about BFG KO2's 37 seem to be smaller that the normal 37 and bigger than a 35

Went with 35s as the Rubicon model fits them without any additional MODs. Work fine on the Dana 44s with 4.10 gears. Knew the jump to 37s would require at minimum a lift and regear which is a big endeavor/cost for a mainly DD as you mentioned. I don't believe 35s fit on any of the other models. Definitely not for offroading, don't know if they rub full turn. I would say 33s on the other models.

35s seem like a good compromise for a DD / Offroader.

A 37, is a 37. Same with 35’s up and down the line.

1/2” either way won’t really change much except weight. Just pick a tire you like and go with it. Remember all lift manufacturers base their recommendations on what the side of the tire says. Almost every tire manufacturer are smaller than advertised because of the way tires are measured.

I will say if you’re even thinking about 37’s you’ll be unhappy with 35”s. Been there done that. These JL’s are in a class of their own. If you own a Rubicon you might as well run 37’s. The only thing you’ll notice is 8th is a little different. These are nothing like JK’s. That’s not a smack on JK’s. I live at 7000 ft and lose close to 30% of my power vs sea level, and the tires are still not really noticeable.

I want a spare tire I can handle when I need to change out a flat, so 37" are off the table, and even 35" is pushing it.

Yup, I have the same problem, my 34" Nitto are a challenge for me and I have to use my motorcycle lift to get the damn thing back onto the spare tire carrier.

I love the look of mine right now without a lift but I have found that the trails I'm exploring have the rear tires getting stuffed into the fender, front is OK. On road and even rough back road stuff is fine.

Lift parts are coming this week so my story might change by next weekend.
