I'm wanting to add a sealed 70AH AGM battery to back of my jeep and then hook a DC to DC charger hooked up to one of my aux switches and set it to only be powered when engine is running to recharge the battery. Does anyone have a suggestion of a DC to DC charger? I bought a Renogy 40A DC to DC Battery Charger but this thing is huge and I was surely hoping for something smaller.

Did you end up hooking up your renogy 40-amp because I have the same one and I just don't know where to run the fuse to so that way the 40 amp dc charger turns on when the car turns on I don't know if I can just run it on a switch to the battery or if I have to run a wire

You want a Sterling BB1230

Is your Jeep a 2.0L with the eTorque, as if so you can also go from 48V to 12V and get quite a performance boost.

I have the old reliable 3.6 in my JL, ill have to look up this Sterling option, do you have that? Whats the performance like??
The Sterling is setup to do what you want. I would hook input to primary battery (fused), output to your secondary battery (fused), and the manual enable to one of the aux or ignition signal.

The 1230 is 30A, and they also have a 1260 which is 60A. I'd probably go with the 60A as nice to be able to charge faster when needed.

The Sterling is also nice as it has some good safety features such as if the input voltage is not above 13V it will shut down (12.4V you can program as well) so even if you forget it on it will not deplete the input battery.

I use the 120A BBW waterproof model on our boat. Works great, zero issues. But a bit big for your application.
