Dealer tech here. Use an OEM apple cable. Periodically inspect your cable ends for dark spots. Once they start appearing you will need to replace it again. I've never had to replace a media port for something like this unless its been physically damaged.

There's a TSB to replace the center console USB cable to support carplay. Maybe look into getting that done and just running a wireless adapter?

Hi alphawolff, Thank you for your reply. Do you happen to have a link to the TSB please? Good tip about black spots.

HI Ratbert, This info is useful here in Spain because sometime they don't fix a TSB or update software unless you mention the TSB to them. As it is USB sticks work my centre consul but not CarPlay

That TSB is explicitly for the center console and is a fix for the center console only. Your issues are also when plugging into your dash, so it's just about impossible that it would have an impact on your dash ports.

Phone port? If the issue exists with both ports that rules out the ports. He says he's tried multiple cables.
No clue. Maybe @IbizaGuy can clarify exactly what he's tried and if the disconnects are relatively consistent with the various combinations.

There's a TSB to replace the center console USB cable to support carplay. Maybe look into getting that done and just running a wireless adapter?
I paid (a lot) to have this done recently and it did NOT resolve any of the USB connection issues, and now I have a center console with scratches and scuffs. My theory is that there is something wrong with the USB power supply...I have tested just having a phone plugged in for charging only, and it will still disconnect every once and a while. I think it's some kind of short with the power. Ran it for 3 years without ever having this issue and have literally tried about 30 different USB cables.

You can always check the connector going into the USB hub for power issues, pin 1 is power on both USB hubs. Ground to Pin 4. Power comes directly from the Assembly-Power Distribution Center. One on Fuse F102 (15A) and other on F11 (10A).
