Dash MPG display "Current" is green or orange - pics

My 2019 JLUS instrument cluster / display / dash sometimes shows two different colors for the "Current -- " MPG when the ESS kicks in. Usually it is green but sometimes it is yellow / orange. See pics. Does anyone know why its mostly green and sometimes orange when ESS is active at stoplight? Couldn't find anything in owners manual or search function here.

It's green when your current is higher than your average, orange when it's lower. When the ESS kicks it off it sticks with wherever you were when it turned off.
