Dash light going on and off

noticed the past 2 days the dash brightness light goes off and on every once in a while. It’s weird. Is there a sensor or something causing this? I have headlights set to auto.
Or a fuse maybe?

It is supposed to do that. It switches to night mode, in dim and cloudy days.
You will notice your headlights will be turning off and on, when this happens.

Yes you can just turn on the headlights manually if you don’t want to use the auto setting. You’ll still have the daytime running lights though, which are almost bright enough to drive at night with.
There’s a few minutes in the morning and afternoon I’ll sometimes turn them off auto, so they won’t be coming on and off when I drive through the shade. The off on flashing then probably annoys someone ahead of you.

Yes. Don't set it on auto.

Auto headlight setting can be disabled by turning the headlight dial off of auto, obviously. To disable the dash lights from automatically dimming when the headlights come on use the vertical dial next to the headlight dial.

Similar to the ess annoying the engine .
