I'm sorry if this has been repeated SO MANY TIMES, BUT---

The steering DAMPNER(SHOCK) really has nothing to do with DEATH WOBBLE" the DAMPER is only a "bandaid/crutch" and buying more expensive DAMPER'S including DBBl damper's, won't cure the front suspension troubles !

I haven't had any trouble with the JL, but with my '08 JKUR, I DE-CLAMPED the steering DAMPER and drove for more than two weeks----NO DIFFERENCE IN STEERING--the DAMPER is just like a "SAFETY" VALVE in the steering system--

What mods have been made to your JL? Lifts? Tires?

Death Wobble on totally stock low mileage JL's is not unheard of but it is much more common on modded Wranglers.

List of mods might be a good way to elicit more helpful responses.

partially true on a JL, and totally true if you mean true wobble vs a high speed shimmy.

if you have bad alignment, worn out bushings, tires needing alignment, loose front end bolts, lift messing up angles you must address those issue to fix both wobble and shimmy.

Right now we have some amount of "within spec vibrations" pushing the likely soon to be recalled "Steering assist" program to get into a "shimmy state". People are replacing stabilizers (some are defective) and gear boxes, in most cases its keeping the feed back to steering assist program from going non stable (pushes us just out of region where software starts over correcting)

Some people have already figured out disabling steering assist made the shimmy stop magically as well (dont do this other than to identify computer is mad at sensors, and some people discovered bad cal data was put into some 4 door also making steering assist do weird things).

You can bet there will be a software update, but in all cases we will have to keep alignments, bushings etc all in primo condition as well.

Serious question: How many people have died from the so-called "death wobble" in a stock Wrangler?
we are unlikely to know, it will simply show up as Wrangler shot off cliff. Dead men tell no tales.

We want FCA to fix it so lawsuits dont shut them down and we cant buy new wranglers in a few years

Agree with Jimbo completely, and I don't know how many times that I've said what the JL is experiencing IS NOT true death wobble, it's more of a steering wheel wobble. But some people will see a shimmy and jump right to the death wobble term.

PS. For the steering damper replacement on the JL, I think there is now a TSB for it. I just had mine replaced and it got better, I'll wait to see how long it lasts.

If your Jeep is stock and has low miles, itā€™s likely an unbalanced wheel. Most Jeeps will get it eventually.

Do you have a lift?

Stock tires?

Do you offroad?

A main cause of "DEATH WOBBLE" in the JK jeeps--after tire balance/toe-in/uneven tread wear was eliminated--has been --
Tie rod bushing abnormal wear--well that's pretty rare in a NEW JL, so-

There has been, a small percentage of LOOSE/UNDER TORQUED--BALL JOINTS--

It's a jungle out there--

I think "death" means it will scare you about to death when you get it. I have developed it in my CJ (I know it's either the Ball joints or wheel bearings, since I've replaced everything else up front. FYI they are the original 1984 BJ/WB and I've DD it since I got it in 01..on 35's so yeah I've been meaning to do this for quite a while) I know what causes mine to happen so I'm just waiting till warmer weather to fix mine. When I hit the right bump it is about the scariest thing I have ever seen!!! seriously NOT FUN
