On the JK I have seen videos and writeups on cutting the 4dr Rubicon rails and being that the forward and middle mounting points are identical they could fit to the 2dr. Looking around I hadnt seen any definitive answers on doing this with the JL but I was able to get a set of rails locally at a good deal (thanks Stormin' Moorman) and figured I would see for myself.

I jacked up the Jeep and removed the drivers side rear tire and indeed they do fit and although i wasnt exactly sure of the OE length of the 2dr rail it looked to me that about 21 1/4" would be about the right length to remove. Heres a pic of the cut and then back on the Jeep

I removed the push pin holding the end cap on and then pryed it out. Later I will paint the cut end to prevent any rust issues and either glue the end cap or drill a hole and reuse the push pin. For now though my kids need the steps I have on already so Im just gonna put these rails away for future use.

Follow the same process for the passenger side.Without the end cap it was exactly 21" of length that I removed, then remove/reinstall your end cap

It was a very easy process using just a reciprocating saw and a new metal cutting blade. As 2dr parts seem to be few and far between its nice that this is a part that that can be repurposed from our 4dr brethren. Heres a couple more pics

That is brilliant! I haven't looked at a set of those closely, so I didn't know the end caps were plastic - I assumed they were welded ends. Nice job!!
