Here's a recent home project to create a carpet liner on top of a pad that evens out the floor of cargo area with rear seat removed in a '20 Wrangler SportS 2DR.
This can be extended to other configurations if just looking for an online rug source that does the edge binding.( I don't work for the rug company.) So as to not publish links in the forum, have listed sources, sizes and assembly notes in attached PDF if anyone is interested. PM if you have supplier questions. The project is working now, but seeking a better carpet glue to the Velcro strips, good enough for my usage, and sharing the results.
There is a 1/2" pad in the back half under the rug liner where the rear seats were. The pad fairly brings up the surface around the cargo hatch and around the metal seat bars so carpet lays flat all the way back, still a little bump felt as 5/8" would be better foam thickness.
Velcro keeps the carpet clipped to the seat bars so the liner does not slide. The pad being around the seat bars on the cargo floor also keep the liner in place.
The rug does not interfere with lifting the storage hatch nor with closing the tailgate, coming to edge of closed tailgate door. With a couple days of use, errands, it's working well. The rug is outdoor type.
Cost was $80 for rug, foam mat, Velcro and glue.
