Of all the issues I have seen on the JL this actually bothers me the most. Surely there is a better solution than new doors.

Really? I'd be more bothered if it was something that was gonna leave me stranded lol but yeah they gotta order the doors, paint them, then they have to "bake". I have an 18 with almost 36k miles but for you the paint should match and be unnoticeable.

Thatā€™s what they had to do to mine. It never happened on the back doors. Just the front ones. Some kind of support member came apart and started rubbing. They replaced the door checks, no help. They had an FCA field engineer come out and they said that the support member (which is apparently bonded in place) came apart. I suppose they decided to bond them in for some reason vs welding or mechanical fastening. My Jeep was less than one year old and they had trouble matching the paint. My dealership told me the paint had sun fade and it had to be blended in to the adjacent panels. I was not pleased that this was the necessary solution on a vehicle this new. It took quite a while to work through. How pleased you will be with it will depend a lot on your dealers body shop capabilities.

The dealer I took mine to was not confident in the repair. Went through the door check bs too.

This along with the steering issues I am trading my JL in for a new Ram and calling it quits. The door issue was my last straw.

Mine does it and I have greased everything even the mechanism inside the door - it isnā€™t the hinges or door pins, I donā€™t have my door pins bolted on so thought that may be it but it wasnā€™t - gonna try loosing the door stop mechanism and see what happens.
Did you end up finding a fix?

Telling you....the checks have nothing to do with this.

I've had my entire textured hard top repainted (back half first, not even close to matching freedom panels, then they did those to match) and a new transfer case installed, not to mention bad driver's door alignment and exhaust leaks, steering play etc. Less than 5k miles, 6 months old. I have two doors clicking, front pass and rear driver. Jeep is dropping the ball left and right. What the hell. Not interested in having them replace and paint doors, they won't be able to match it, I'll bet my life on it, especially metallic colors. What a clusterf*ck Jeep!!!

I took my door checks off today. I hope someone finds a better solution than new doors.

Is there a video of how to take the door panel off? Can you see what is moving to make the noise?

My understanding, from what my dealer rep said, was there is a member inside the door that had become debonded. They said they could tell with the door panel off, but I wasnā€™t privy to this. They just sealed it back up and told me what the fix was going to be and sent me on my way. I had no idea they werenā€™t going to be able to match the paint (easily). Replacing the doors is simple. Apparently itā€™s the painting that is the tricky part.

So there is no way to reattach the member, or they just don't want to?

Iā€™d be lying if I told you either way, but my guess would be that there is no way to improve it without completely disassembling it, cleaning it up, and rebonding. Probably would damage something in the process.
