I was out of the country for 2 weeks for my brothers wedding and I came home to a surprise. The passenger side hard top side glass has a crack in it. I have no idea how it happened. There is no clear "chip" in the glass like if a rock were to hit it. And it was in my driveway the whole time. What are my options? Call my insurance and see if they will cover it? I'm pretty sure my deductible is $500. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have one of those replaced?

Thats funny!
I actually just did their online quote and itā€™s $500, same as my deductible. So I might not even get my insurance involved just so they donā€™t raise my premium.

I would agree. Completely unrelated to vehicle damage but damage of a different sort. Was planning to reroof my house this summer. Late spring I was visiting with some friends at church and they mentioned that they recently had a leak in their roof. So did we. We live in the same neighborhood. The following week they told me that their insurance agent came out to their house and said they had hail damage.

Keep in mind I was already going to reroof my house. Already had an estimate. Nearly $8,000. Had my insurance company to send an adjuster out to check.... just in case. Yep I had significant hail damage. Did not even know it. Insurance covered all of it but my $1000 deductible.

Why do I say this....

Your going to replace the glass right....
Then take it the dealer to have it checked as Kyanche mentioned. What do you have to lose? Could be an issue with bad side window glass. Who knows it may cost you little to nothing. Then you can treat yourself to $500 item for your Jeep that you want. :giggle:

Iā€™d also recommend seeing how much a 0 comprehensive deductible costs. In my case itā€™s enough to pay for a windshield after 3-4 years, but at least I wouldnā€™t have to pay for it? Worth a thought anyway I suppose.

My insurance has a $500 or $100 deductible depending on whether you want to pay an extra $4 per month. I wouldn't mention the vehicle had just been sitting for 2 weeks and then you noticed the crack. They might consider that a manufacturer defect and not cover the glass. This isn't something new to them. You can google and see where various back glass windows on SUVs have sporadically broken while sitting due to possibly heat conditions (Ford Escape is well known). I'd just say someone must have hit it with a ball or their fist for all you know.

I called my insurance and confirmed the $500 deductible. Safelite wants $500 and I just got back from the Jeep dealership and they want $160 for the glass and $290 to put it in. So $450. I think I'm just going to order the glass from Jeep and have them put it in. Then I'll change my comprehensive coverage to a lower premium.

Or you could get the black out panel for a 2gallon rotopax and it keeps the fuel cell flush to the side of the hard top!

If the glass is the same size and shape as a jk, you could get sliders from that retrofit company.

I'd take the opportunity if it happened to me.

My hardtop window cracked earlier this year. My insurance wouldn't cover it, so I had to pay full. I took it to a local window repair shop and got quoted $450. They had to special order it from Jeep because there was no available generic window and only OEM. It took a week for it to get delivered to the shop.

Dealer ended up looking up the wrong glass so the original $160 turned into a $290 piece of glass. I ended up looking the part number up online and buying it from a Jeep dealer website for $180 plus $20 for shipping. Now I just need to find a place that can install it.

should just be 3m windshield sealer on this. and a suction cup to make it easy to hold up the window while placing it.

***amazon has the 3m windshield adhesive for 23 bucks ***
