probably a bad pump from the parts supplier... it happens... get it fixed and it'll be fine...
It does not seem to be the pump. Got better pictures today and can see it leaking from a hardline into the engine, and at the head gasket area. I was hoping it was a bad water pump, guess I won't be that lucky.

it looks like the serpentine belt may be slinging some around making it look worse than it is... I'd be at the closest dealer at 7am tomorrow...

Yeah, I noticed that also because there was some on the hood liner. The leak by the head seems to seep more than the hardline that is leaking. The hardline hose looks like an easy fix and does not worry me at all. The head leaking like that does, especially with the engine oil looking funny and smelling odd.

I'm sure pulling the motor is a big job, and will never go all back in like from the factory. I worry it will never be the same, and show on carfax impacting long term value.

is the oil cloudy? or milkshake looking? is the oil over-full?... a head gasket won't require pulling the engine, just the leaky head to replace the gasket... like I said before, have the dealer pick it up, grab a loaner from them and let them fix it... don't let it sit around if you even think it has water in the oil...

I sent the pictures to the dealership I purchased it from, the service department said they have no idea what it is and to find a local dealer to take it to for service.

I did open a @JeepCares Case since this happening on a brand new vehicle, and to make sure it is corrected right the first time.

Absolutely!

Hopefully mine is a fluke, and it is not like some of the older v6 that were known to have issues like this. Living here in AZ, the last thing I want to worry about is the cooling system.

first update: went into dealership Monday, they were very good about getting me in right away. they called Tuesday and said it was fixed. Bad water pump.

on the way home I noticed that it had a real bad hesitation, or shutter when accelerating. before it was always very smooth when taking off or passing etc. now it almost feels like it has a misfire or something. I also noticed that I could still smell coolant.

when I got home I looked at the spots I had the pictures of leaks. the one near the water pump had stopped, but it looked like the seep by the head gaskets and the hard tube coolant line into the block on the passenger side right by the puppy on top was still leaking. in fact I cleaned it off, and it seemed out and had an active drip on to the belt. I called the dealership and they were able to get it back in the same day. This time we looked at the leak in person to go along with the pictures. I also let them know to check the oil and about the hesitation.

as of now, no ETA on completion or what all is wrong, but FCA customer care has been very responsive and making sure everyone documented and my concerns noted. the dealership is also trying to be helpful, even if they did send it back out without being fixed (and having a picture of the leak before I even brought it in. )

am sure I have a unique case, but it is frustrating having a brand new vehicle that has multiple coolant related issues. especially since I live in an area that is brutal hot in the summer and will strain any cars cooling ability, we bought the Jeep to explore AZ, CO, NM, CA and UT but right now I don't have a lot of faith in mine particular with going out where we may get stranded.

I'll let the group know once I know more.

lol, I'll have to admit that I was pretty shocked when some of the leaks that they had pictures of were not addressed. guessing it pays more to do it as two visits

Second update: there was a plate on the front of the block, and a "crossover tube" that is part of the cooling system that attaches to the block that had to be replaced. Looking at the tube, it seems like a weak spot.

They got the Jeep back to me late yesterday, and my wife took it out for a few hours today and it does not appear to be leaking anymore. We plan to test it more over the weekend to make sure it is good.

The dealership has been very quick to assist, and so has FCA customer support / Jeep Cares. I am concerned that I had these two failures within the first 1500 miles (water pump may be a fluke) and will have to keep an eye on it this evening the hard tube as a weak point where if it is vibrated too much, or maybe even tempatire changes etc. it could leak. The metal on metal for a coolant line like this seems like a bad idea.

I'll let the group know more after a weekend on the trails.

Remember that warranty repairs pay poorly, and that more than a few techs today just replace whatever parts the service manual tells them to.

They how to replace parts, not how to diagnose or, frankly, how an engine even works.

The good techs are usually doing more profitable repair work rather than the warranty grunt work.
