The only costs to the dealer are carrying costs (cost of money & insurance), so if the dealer finances their inventory there will be an interest cost, with todays interest rates this is minimal; the only other cost is insurance, but this too is minimal. So the short answer is, the dealer feels he will make more money by waiting for a "Soccer Mom" as you put it. It's just business, it's not personal.Does it cost a dealer anything to just leave a Jeep sit on the lot because they won't budge on the price? I visited my local dealership a couple of years ago about a JKUR that had been sitting on the lot for weeks. They wouldn't come down from the MSRP, one cent! That Rubi sat on the lot for more than four more months! I guess they finally did get a 'soccer mom' to buy it at the sticker price, even tho' it was getting close to being a year old.
