Getting my new steering box put in today, my warranty is still in the 12 month period.
I bought my jeep as a leftover 2019 in Jan 2020, so after a call to Jeep and a visit to the dealer, the replacement was set for today.
Will post how it goes, by the way, I was looking at the 392 Jeep and one of the things Jeep stated is the the steering box is all steel.
You will be very pleased with the results. It may be the best holiday gift you will get this year. For me it was the difference from being a pain to drive, to a pleasure. Don't have crazy expectations since its still not a Lexus and will still drive like a Jeep (or how a Jeep should drive) and will still sail around in the wind. Enjoy the new box.

With the new steering box, maybe the 392 won't be 0 to DW in 3 seconds. But if I were getting a 392 JL, I'd put in big aftermarket trackbars, draglink and tierod.

We have a 19 with an aluminum box at 2500 miles and a 20 with a cast iron box that has about 700 miles on it.

I can't feel any difference in steering....yet

Just got my JL back with the steering boxed replaced, on the drive home, I felt it was the same as a nice sunny day, but this day had a 20 to 30 mile wind and my jeep felt like there was no wind in the steeting

My 2020 Recon with a build date 6/20 has the new Steering Gear Box, and the steering feel is great.

It would be interesting to see when the new steering gear went onto the assembly line?

My 2020 Recon has an 8/20 build date and it has the aluminum box. First thing I noticed when it got here was that it steered weird. The Rubicon I test drove didn’t drive like this.
Typical.

Take it in and get it replaced. It doesn’t get any easier then that . They will replace it!

Three try's, I had to drop it off for the dealer to test ride, they said they would replace it, but steering box was back ordered.
Dealer called me up; told me the parts guy, found the part and we made an appiontment for the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Dropped it off, thought I would pick it up on Saturday, but got a call that it would not be done, because they didn't get to it on Friday,we agreed on me picking it up and droping it off on Monday.
Dropped it off on Monday and picked it up on Tuesday.

I have a 2020 that I haven't even owned a year and its been sitting at the dealership for 2 months now waiting for the replacement part. Glad to hear Jeep isnt using that part on the 2021s.

OK! Now I know I'm a old fart, anybody got swamp land for sale? Talk about whishing upon a star and believing, wait did I just make that true by believing that it's true?
Well I'm going to look at it this way, first box was real bad, so dealer put in a new steering gear box, thought it was the TSB 0807420 Iron gear box, iron kills witches right, well this witch is not dead, they sent the original aluminum steering box and you guessed it, the dealer put it on my jeep.
Just got off the phone with the dealer, wrong part, wrong day, well, with the new box, a little better steering(thank goodness it's cold in Pa) they are getting the real steel and the manager told me that I saved a lot of headaches, for other customers

So, I just ordered a 2021 JLUR to replace my 2019 JLU and have been trying to figure out if the 2021's actually have the updated steering gear or not. I got the TSB done on my 2019 and I definitely don't want to go back to the old sloppy steering on the 2021 JLUR. Are the 2021's all getting the new updated steering gear for certain?

As far as every forum member who owns a 2021 who has chimed in, including myself, and also a forum member who went to a dealership and looked at the gearboxes of a large number of 2021s, we can confirm with a high degree of certainty that every 2021MY Jeep Wrangler will have the steel gearbox.
