‘if you don’t mind my asking, what is the installation process for this mount???? And, is it “simple”?
The water straw and fire extinguisher were just put under the seat. No mount.

More pictures of the fire extinguishers. Really can’t believe these aren’t more popular.

Made more room in the garage.

Sold the Subaru. Now I’m commuting in the Jeep exclusively. Also, I'm on the hunt for a trailer and maybe a second set of wheels and tires.

Status Update

Currently searching for the right utility/camping trailer. A teardrop would be great but I wouldn't be able to haul stuff back from Home Depot. Here is what I am seeing so far:

  1. Space 6500 HighRider ST - $2,799 utility trailer
  2. Sylvansport Go - $9,995 utility/camping trailer
  3. Manley MORV Explore - $9,395 utility/camping trailer

The Milestar Patagonia M/T's are wearing well and have been holding up on dry, wet, and snow covered roads just fine. Better grip than I was expecting on all those conditions and as good as expected off road: Awesome.

Still, I'm considering new wheels that don't stick out so far and will likely wrap them in used KO2's for commuting duties. This will let me keep the Milestars from wearing out on the road and reduce the amount of spray from tires sticking outside of the wheel wells. The wheels I'm considering are the following:

  1. Mopar 77072494AB Slotted Off-Road Wheel in Satin Carbon Finish - 29.1 lbs (Weight by @obwahn )
  2. Mopar 77072471AB Gear Wheel in Satin Carbon - 28.8 lbs
  3. AEV Pintler in matte black - 25.5 lbs

Mopar's trail lights look awesome but have dropped my mileage by almost 1 mpg. They create wind noise and can only be used off road, maybe I should remove them and only put them on when I'm ready to head for the hills? :movember:

MetalCloak's game changer lift drives great. I'm amazed that it feels so comfortable and never gets upset even when hitting unseen potholes or going over washboard dirt roads. Good choice.

The stereo continues to act up from time to time. Like beta testing pre-release equipment, it feels more like a work in progress than a ready for production product. Many times after listening to music on the phone, if I dare shutdown the Jeep and come back without plugging the phone in before starting, it will not let me switch between screens. I can't go to navigation or the radio or any of the other apps. If I plug the phone in and shut the system down and then restart, it's almost always back to working condition.

On the plus side, the backup camera has been on point ever since the stereo was replaced. Works great, though it gets dirty and I have to clean the lens from time to time. :surprised: I haven't been in a wet snow storm for a while, but I'm sure I'll have to clear the headlights every now and then... Oh the horror! :giggle:

The spare tire just touches the bumper now, even with the Mopar reinforcement support. I didn't get the riser that is recommend for a 37" tire for my 34.4" tire. Going to sell the reinforcement if AEV ever sells me a bumper so I'm not going to stress about it. Only slightly touching as it is.

I loved my Subaru for snow and ice, but the Jeep is pure beast mode in deeper snow. Still loving my Jeep. :involve:

On the wheels my opinion I would vote for a not black wheel. That mopar slotted looks neat in the photo but I’ve never seen them in person.

The 8.4 in my 2018 JGC has generally been good but I still get glitches. Yesterday no back up camera and it was stuck on full bright driving in to work in the dark. At first it would not respond but after 5 min it sort of woke up enough to adjust the seat heaters. Power (on/off) was in-op and screen-off mode it was still too bright. Restart did not cure it. When I parked and locked it you could still see the screen glow. 9hrs later it was back to normal.

As much as I like the bronze, I keep thinking that they are sticking out too far and the color doesn't sit well with the Punk'n. I'd like something a bit brighter/cleaner like the Gravity concept:

Or like Mike:

There isn't a lot of weight difference and the Mopar wheels don't have the Method bead tech touted to hold the bead at lower pressures.

  • Method MR701 17x8.5 in Bronze - 30.2 lbs
  • Mopar 77072494AB Slotted Off-Road Wheel in Satin Carbon Finish - 29.1 lbs
  • Mopar 77072471AB Gear Wheel in Satin Carbon - 28.8 lbs

Well with a bit more research, it seems I need the wheels further out to clear the MetalCloak bits on full flex. SO... no +12mm Mopar wheels. :(

More changes today. Took the pillar lights and moved them to the bumper.

The lights up by the windshield actually made it harder to see when on a dusty trail, the added wind noise was annoying, 1 mpg drop in mileage, and they were in the way of putting the windshield down. Though the last is a marginal impact as I don't really drive much with the windshield down. lol

First tank without the pillar lights nets 17.4 mpg vs 16.6 mpg.

Still, I’ll continue for another two tanks for an average.

Interesting results on the pillar lights and gas milage. I would not have thought it would have that much effect.

On the trailer if you really want a teardrop I have seen a few teardrops with wide rear doors and almost bought mine with one. Kinda regret not getting it. I think the guy that made mine retired his website is down which is a shame it ran about $4000-5000.

Here is pretty much the same layout as mine except in all aluminum. I think this gut is gone too they were basically an intech knock off. https://www.nationaltravelersrv.com/product/used-2018-vrv-flyer-eco-flyer-1000371-102

Intech makes their Flyer with a rear door but its extra expensive.https://www.intechrv.com/models/flyer/chase/

Lots of places to explore. Many Texan transplants came and stayed in the hills. You won’t be disappointed, except maybe in the traffic. We don’t have as good a frontage road network.

gary, quick question:

it looks like you mounted these Mopar lights directly on the bumper. But, you also have a picture of the Mopar grille guard with the lights on it. I really like the fender mount. Does the Mopar grille guard fit over the lights when the lights are fender mounted like you have them?
