Now how to remove the Jeep goo without messing up the Punk’n?
Trail badge looks great!
One of my worries perfectly illustrated. The goo. Tape off the JEEP, but removing the goo without screwing up the tape.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
A hair dryer and some rubbing alcohol should do the trick, goo gone is ok but it's not that strong, it's watered down so it can be sold in all states.

Heat, definitely heat. Either a hair dryer per @blnewt or a heat gun on low (will be hotter than a dryer so gotta be careful), and then you scrape with the edge of a credit card (shouldn't hurt the paint since it's plastic) and it should peel off.

The rubbing alcohol worked MUCH better than goo gone.

Heat gun worked great to loosen and get the letters off but not so much the leftover foam and glue. That came off well with rubbing alcohol and the plastic trim tool used as a scraper.

More rubbing will the ghost outline of residue off, but I think it’s good enough and will act perfectly as a template for the new letters.

PS: Heat gun was warm enough to melt one of the "e's" ... so much for reusing it on the trailer. I'll have one set to put on the tailgate I suppose?

My first Jeep was a 2006 LJ with 4.5" lift and 35" mud terrains. I loved that Jeep. It got me anywhere I wanted to go and a few places I didn’t.

Being my first Jeep I had no idea what my goals were or what I needed to get there. So I followed a meandering build path that led me to much heavier tires on a Jeep that was too tall and no longer fun to drive on the streets. Acceleration, braking, cornering, talking to the wife at speed, all took a hit for the ability to crawl over rocks I wasn’t looking to conquer.

I bought the new 2018 JL to start over. The goal is to wander more and worry less.

I chose the 2 door manual because it’s more suited to my needs/wants: Fun and easy to maneuver. The 4 door auto may have been a better choice for an overlander, but I’m stubborn that way.

Update: After failing to stay stock, I did add several bits to make for more fun on the trail. I'm still grinning ear to ear every time I take her out.

I was never one for naming my vehicles, but this time "Wanderer" seemed right.

I like to hike, bike, explore, and sometimes just get lost. :)

Plans

Given current fuel prices and the desire for a more comfortable ride, I've been researching adjustable shocks. I may also just revert to OEM 392 suspension for a while?

Got another off-road trailer. Couldn't resist, so now I'll have an RTT for Moab. 🙌

Planning a trip to Ouray and Moab again this year, along with more hikes. 🤞🤷‍♂️

Enjoy the adventure. 🍻
This is the new standard for build threads. I'll be doing the same here shortly, well :swear:ing done.

Did your trail badge have the factory hole behind it when you took it off? I’ve been told our ‘18s may or may not.

Nope. Some pliers and a bit of grinding cured the issue though.

A dremel would be a better grinder in this situation. But I was pissed, and not in the mood for delicate modifications. 🤷‍♂️😂

I have had luck with that orange based stuff.

Some of the other stuff pulls some of the clear coat or paint. IMHO

So both Goo Gone and rubbing alcohol left a bit of residue. Acetone did better than both. (Goo Gone >> rubbing alcohol >> Acetone)

The Jeep badge comes with a paper backing and this nice sticky clear tape on top. After removing the paper backing, lining up was very easy.

Also, you can see where the letters line up with the door hinge. Top of the "J" with the pin, and again with the "eep" along the longer bit.

In the end, I like the color with the wheels much better.

Now, where can I get $35k to stuff a hemi in there? 🤷‍♂️ 😂

Excellent work and they look great with your wheels. Thanks for the details.
Mine are going on during my next couple of days off.

Time to start a go fund me! It’s amazing what people will throw money at.

Looks great Gary, I was going to mention Acetone, but not the 100%, they have a diluted version for Nail Polish removal that IIRC is about 60% Acetone, a bit safer on the clear coat. For the ghosting you can use some Macguires Ultimate Compound but since you covered up that area w/ new lettering it's not an issue. What part#s did you use for Jeep & the Trail Rated badge, would like to do that on mine but if they make one that has the Maroon outlines would probably look better on my Sting Gray. That lettering and badge look so right on your JL's color for sure

392 Badges

Mojave Badges

I didn't see a maroon from the factory, but I'm sure there are after market options.

I almost went with this one for example:
