Lost Creek Wilderness Hike

24 mile loop, but we only went in and came out after one day due to weather. (And maybe a bit of ankle issues.)

IMG_3733.JPEG

So we spent our time exploring the historic sites a bit more.

Would love to have seen the place in it's hay day.

At the top of the next hill was a cable system. Not sure what it did.

IMG_4526.JPEG

IMG_4527.JPEG

Really cool terrain, with lots of places to explore next time.

IMG_3787.JPEG

IMG_3850.JPEG

We finally found camp and setup.

IMG_3798.JPEG

But, before the meals were cooked, the wind picked up and blew the tents over and threatened to blow the fire into the surrounding trees.

IMG_3808.JPEG

So we emptied the rest of our water to put it out and headed back down trail to a cave we found along the way.

IMG_3821.JPEG

IMG_3831.JPEG

Near as we can tell, it was used as a storage shed by the reservoir builders. Big enough that it had an existing fire pit. Vented well with air coming into the entrance and then up and out through several escapes around back.

Out of the wind, we hiked a half mile back to the creek to refill water supplies. Dinner and a couple of brews in a cave with a fire. What more can you ask for?

Three years ago today, my Jeep rolled into my life.

I've had many fun times and sets of wheels/tires since, and I'm still loving every minute of it.

Happy Delivery Day Wanderer.

Okay, had to go back to a soft top. Early this month I found the Trectop NX on CL. Thanks Bill!

The Out of Bounds trailer build is finally under way!

Windshield finally caught a rock that was a bit too big.

Replaced with OEM, and I have to say I didn't realize how pitted the original one got in three years.

Steer Smarts Sector Shaft Brace

IMG_4300.JPEG

The parts came well boxed and with all new bolts.

IMG_4301.JPEG

I really like the bearing included for the sector shaft. Well done Steer Smarts.

IMG_4306.JPEG

There are many videos on installation, and it's fairly easy to do at home.

IMG_4307.JPEG

Just be sure to torque to spec and mark for later inspections.

IMG_4308.JPEG

I'm very impressed with the build quality and fitment. Great piece of mind knowing things are well braced for trail duty now.

The on road improvements were subtle but noticeable, especially on highway drives. The Jeep was tracking great before, but now it's even tighter. Very solid and no wandering in the Wanderer anymore.

Out of Bounds Trailer

I finally got a trailer!

The Day Out with a lid that's stout enough for a roof top tent in the future, or any lumber I want to stack on it from Home Depot.

IMG_4312.JPEG

It's balance and road manners were great! At 1,140 lbs, I hardly noticed it in my little two door Jeep. It was stable even at highway speeds for over an hour. Love this trailer!

IMG_4318.JPEG

It's easy enough to maneuver into it's spot in the garage, but I did quickly find that reverse is way too tall in the 6 speed manual. My steep driveway and squeezing the trailer next to the wife's Rav4 was not fun. I'll be working on my trailer skills, but it would be easier if the reverse gear wasn't so damn tall.

Anyway, thank you Greg on a job well done!

Do not hesitate to give this man your money. Well worth the price. IMHO

Nice job on the trailer. Are those wheels & tires the same specs as your JL set?
Well done sir!

The wheels and tires are the same except that I went with 285 instead of 315/70-17 on the trailer. Still close enough to use the spare on either, and the trailer already has more clearance than the Jeep.

Round two with my brother in law Daryle, who has never been offroad before.

It was a clear day for a change!

IMG_4647.JPEG

Followed up with beer and pizza of coarse!

I'm glad he came out to join me for a bit of fun. Nothing extreme but it was great to surprise someone with what a Jeep can do. I did tell him that I was up there with stock sports the other day. None had an issue getting up these "milder" roads.

The dust was the worst. Getting the cabin clean took a bit.

Couple of wheel dings to go with the branch scrapes in the paint. Most of the time I can avoid them, but this time the trail got a bit too tight with a lippy rock.

Great food and better company.

It was just the reset that I've needed for quite some time.
Oh man, I cannot wait for fall! Seeing those pics around a camp fire wearing a flannel shirt; it just looks like the best of times. Thanks for sharing.
