Cold weather ideas

I don't really go out during low temps but ended up doing some night time skiing this last week. Outside temps hit the 20s which is a fairly rare thing for me.

Remote wouldn't unlock, so I had to use the key and then push start with the keyfob to get the engine running.

For those of you that hit the 20s and below more frequently, what advice/mods/gear/ideas do you recommend? Looking to be a bit more prepared without surprises next trip ?

Inside my backpack, so it did get pretty cold in there. Should I keep it in a pocket to keep it warm?

I'm at around 3.5 years w/ ~50k miles. Does that sound about right for battery life in our key fobs?

Absolutely. I just swapped both original batteries out for new ones in my ‘21 JL. The Jeep wasn’t recognizing the fob I use all the time. Also had the same experience with remote start that same day.
Changed both of tnem and everything’s fine.

@Aonar is correct also. They don’t work well after being cold and 20° seems to be the magic number. It’s been 20° and under since the new batteries went in and I’ve had no issues since.

Yep. You will find others have had same issue. I accidentally left mine in my unheated garage, in the JP, overnight. Low teens. Same issue. Keep in an inner pocket against your body and I bet problem solved. IF your battery is very old, as previously mentioned, change it too. Mine is almost 3 years old BUT only had that one issue

I’ve seen varying reports of cold start issues on the ecodiesel FB groups. Even as high as 20* some people have reported gelling issues, but I would’ve thought if you see temps that low your local fuel is winterized? Maybe try Hot Shots anti gell additive and a block heater?

I know when the temps dropped here in NETX not long ago, my remote start would not work. Tried on multiple occasions and I would just get a click (did it few times standing next to my Jeep). Get inside (proximity locks worked fine) and had to use the push button and Jeep would start right up. With temps going back up and getting into the 70's already, remote start is back working properly.

I chalk this up to bad Jeep batteries and not bad fob batteries.
