Running heavy Nitto 40" Trail's, and the Jeep's pretty heavy, too. Gears are 5.13's. While they are indeed working great, if I were to re-gear again soon (or upgrade my axles) I would definitely go with 5.38's.

My JLUR is a manual, and I am able to use 6th gear above 70. The crazy thing is I generally get 15.6-16 MPG just about every tank, And yes, the speedo is calibrated.
How is it while crawling do you stall often?

I stalled more with 4.10's 5.13 are a 20% improvement over 4.10.. if I could go 6.x something I would tomorrow. it's not a massive difference with the manual trans. and 5.13 vs 5.38? meh

Never. I had 35's and 4.10 gears. 4.56 now. NEver stalled off-road with the 4.10's. 1st gear is very short to begin with. With the Rubi's 4:1 transfer case, it is ridiculous. That said, I've not crawled with one with 3.45 gears and the 2.72:1 T-case.

You also have to understand I live at 6000ft and wheel at 8k+.. big difference in power reduction.

I live and wheel at an altitude that reduces the little 3.6 to prob 150hp?? If that.

I'm just north of the Springs living at 7K, and wheel closer to 10K. Have the Livernois Motorsports tune running E85 (almost every Kum & Go in the state has E85). That plus regearing made a huge difference at these altitudes. Still not a 392, but much better and less hassle than installing Forced Induction.

You lose 3% for every 1000 feet in altitude. So if you are 2 miles high, that is somewhere around 30%. So that puts it around 200 peak. Probably around 216hp at 8k. Still a big drop, though. But still more hp than my old 3.8 JK at sea level, LOL!

THANK YOU sir.. this should help my situation!

I'm calling livernois next week.. this little v6 at altitude is not getting it.

Does it require a plug in tuner?

yeah its tough.. I come from a diesel and FI 2500HD trucks.. torque is the issue.. this is a car engine.

Love the durable little 3.6 but the torque powerband is bad.. and altitude makes it much worse... install some 37'' tires and it's done.

I can't even imagine a retune for altitude. It has to be incredible.

Yeah, I'd bet it sucks wind up there. It's not so bad down here at 820. Lol!

It's terrible.. I wasn't buying into it really until I drove over 12k last spring.. ugh. It gets exponentially worse over 8k.

Even with 5.13s and a manual i can just push the accelerator to the floor over 8k.. it's nuts

Spent the last week and a half crossing Vail Pass every day at 10,650+ with a cargo box on top, tons of winter gear, and family. Sometimes in 4H on snow. Maintained hwy speeds the entire time on 35s. Was looking into Forced Induction options, but with the LM tune running E85, not really necessary.

YES, you can tell it's a tuning issue.. I plan to spend whatever is necessary this year with livernois to get it tuned

Rarely stall offroad. With the break hold feature in the latest Tazer updates, it's much easier now.
