Watching this thread. Looking forward to see how it turns out. I have retro plans for whatever Jeep I end up getting.

Also, up until a year and a half ago we lived in KC. Now in Pittsburg and definitely understand the wind. šŸ˜‰

So, here's where things start to take the retro turn. I'm in my early 40's so the Jeeps I grew up ogling were the CJs. I just love this particular style of stripes on the Renegades. I've reached out to Pixel Decals to rework them a bit to fit the proportions of the JL. Hopefully, I'll see them this summer but he did warn me that he has a lot of projects on his plate.

Love it! I literally just saw one of those on Friday in Boise.

The CJ Renegade was what made me fall in love with Jeeps - had a friend with a white / blue combo. We used to trade when he drove down to San Diego to visit his folks - he got my Nissan 240SX for the freeway and I got to drive the Jeep while he was gone. I knew someday I'd have one of my own. Looking forward to watching your build.

The Quadratec Baja Xtreme II "soft 8s" and the gunmetal "Jeep" press in caps showed up in the morning delivery at work. Some part of the Dana/Spicer gears are due in this afternoon.

With the retro CJ theme, any reason why you didn't get the Quadratec Retro CJ rims?

They were definitely on my list early on but I've always had more of a soft spot for the "soft 8" style of wheels.

I keep vacillating between the Fifteen52 Analog, the CJ Retro, or the Procomp 67. Need to make up my mind eventually. Those Analogs are pricy, though. I may have to check out the Baja Extremes as well.

love that style wheel. i keep thinking of doing the polished ones on my Punkin just because i like shiny wheels. But these have me possibly rethinking that.

I currently have 4.56s on order but the shop doing the install is edging me towards 4.88s. The drive to Oklahoma City kinda sealed the deal to re-gear. I'm not planning on going any bigger than 35s but Missouri, Arkansas, southern Kansas and Oklahoma when you're in the Ozarks and Flint Hills is hillier than a lot of people realize. And windy, so so windy. The constant hunting on the factory 285s between 8th, to 7th and some times even 6th driving thru that area drove me nuts. 4.56s would be more than enough to compensate for the 35s and a bit more to help with the hunting. If I were in a 300-400 pound heavier JLUR I'd be going 4.88s without a doubt.
Your 8th gear is a .65 overdrive. Go with the higher gear set. I went 5.13ā€™s with my JLR and 35ā€™s. Even at that ratio Iā€™m not running the motor to high at cruise. 2650 at 75 I believe.

If I buy another CJ-7 Iā€™m making it as clean and simple as can be like this. This would be a great carryover to a new one as well.

That's exactly my intention by trying to use modern takes on the right elements. The Golden Eagles would be another great CJ to pay tribute to.

I will only say that I think you will regret not going with 4.88 gears. I have a 3.6L/8 speed and with 35's/4.88, it was absolutely perfect with plenty of pep.

You will never see anyone post that they have over-geared, only that they wish they had geared lower.

Good luck with the build--it's going to be awesome.
