Check engine light already...37 miles!

Not the way to start ownership of my first Jeep. Just got home with my shiny new Rubicon with the 2L... check engine light came on 5 miles out. Found the gas cap barely in the filler hole (thanks for the tank full of fuel anyway). Tightened it. Restarted... still on. Drove a few miles.. still on. I do own a cheapy OBDII scanner... but it's in the coach, in storage. I will be headed over there first thing in the morning to scan it... if I can. I read on this site where I can't scan as it's locked. WTF? NOT HAPPY.

My gas cap was put on wrong the gasket was messed up, fixed it. Then it took a few restarts to clear the error message

Engine lights usually are a sensor problem, most likely nothing to do with the engine itself.

Scroll the menu on the center cluster to the stored message screen see what it says.

Turned out to be a loose pin in a connector.

Kinda figured it didn't have anything to do with the engine itself.

Yea, the check engine light literally comes on for anything and everything

But since then.... it has been all good. Good mpg. Good wheelin. ... good times

Any update?

I had the mil light come on. I swear it was always on and that was normal haha. So I pulled over and restarted my car then it turned off and has not come on ever since. I’m out in the snow now and have been using 4 wheel hi so not sure if it’s from that. How do I check what the mil light on was for? I have no stored messages. Is the only way to check is take it in for service?
