Cheap non-homelink or homelink-like hidden garage door opener hack.

Rather than having a loose door opener in the cab, I used velcro to stick it behind the heat, A/C etc controls. Then added a momentary button in the cubby below.

Only took about 15 minutes and a few cents for the switch.

Would you please elaborate a little more on this? Specific switch you used, how did you wire up the switch, any more helpful tips, etc.
Thanks!

I had to open up the garage door remote (same way to change the battery) and solder a wire to each side of the momentary switch on the circuit board. Recommend using a meter to verify the right contact points. My remote's circuit board had a DPST momentary switch so I had to make sure I had the right two solder points.

Then cut a small notch to pass the wires through the plastic remote cover.

Then soldered a switch on the other end of the wires like this one pictured

Just like these listed on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XXLHLT...abc_1QW3Z062BHT18MNKQFM9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I basically added a remote wired momentary switch to the garage door remote.

You might want to add an ignition controlled relay on the cold side to keep anyone from opening your garage door when the doors are off.

That's a good addition to make it more like homelink. And may be necessary if you park outside with a soft top, topless or doorless. I considered that also but didn't have any relays laying around.

My JLU is parked in the garage so not necessary in my case.

I'm guessing 80% of the garage door remote using population have the same problem with garage remotes on the visor (or somewhere else in the cab).

I just put my opener in the key holder slot between the cupholders. Fits like it belongs there, no one ever notices it.

That's a nice spot, my wife puts her phone there.

My phone rides between the parking brake lever and the console. There’s a little rubber pad there for it to rest on. As for hers, I plan to get one of those little trays that fit between the grab handle and the dashboard.

Well, one of my little mods / hacks, is the plastic hook I installed on the inside of my JL's fuel door.

Thanks to the hook, no more gas cap lying on the painted surface.

Also, keeps the gas cap out of mud, snow or sleet on the side of the JL.

I have had the hook installed or months now and geeeeeeeeeeeeeez, it has worked out well.

It's just one of these trimmed down and applied to the fuel door:

Installed one today. Picked up a bag of clips from Amazon so if you are in the Nashville area and need one I have plenty left over.

The company also sells a solid tubing. Does anyone have any experience with using it.

The reason I ask is that the gap between the fenders and the body is not consistent along the seam. I worked hard to get the welting evenly placed. But, the pressure washer drives the hollow welting inward in some places and not in others. Wondering if the solid stuff would work better. Either way, I love it out here in the land of decomposed granite particles ... does it's job well.
I use it. Every now and again I have to push it back in.
