Cheap and Easy Storage Ideas

All you all may know the New Jeep JL is by far the most complicated jeep in History! Every cubic inch of these things are filled with pipes, wire, control boxes, hoses etc. The major question is what are you supposed to do for storing all of the tools and other junk that you normally like to have on hand wherever you go?
I bring my Golden Retriever wherever I go so I cannot just fill the rear cargo area with stuff… What to do?

Here are the different things I have done in no particular order. I hope this helps you in some way!

Drawstring gym bags:

I packed them and strapped them to the rollbar in the far rear of the jeep with a simple lashing strap. The one on the left has 2 bath towels and the one on the right has my snatch strap, tree saver and some rope.


Dirt Bags:

Dominion Offroad has these neat bags specifically sized to fit under the rear seat, one on each side. They hold a ton and no installation required, they just slip in. Look them up, they are a forum sponsor and the owner is a nice guy.

Dominion also sells the Hilift mount that has the place to also mount a Pulaski axe and a shovel.

Fire Extinguisher:

Another great company is Cooltech. They have a fire extinguisher mount that fits perfectly between the Gym bag and the Hilift mount on the Driver’s side roll bar.

Cooltech also has a great solution for mounting a CB Radio with the antenna.

Backpacks on the wheel wells:
For this you need a small backpack that has the Molle straps all over it (on the firont and the sides). I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/Fieldline-TPB002FLT-008-Tactical-Alpha-Daypack/dp/B00CAV5ZJ8/

I looked at the specs of 100’s of backpacks before I chose this one. It is wide enough for a lot of storage but is not too tall so it does not block my windows and only costs $28.

To mount it you need to get a set of these from GPCA, I found them on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074N8TBK2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

They mount under the screws that hold the hard top down and allow you to strap things in. there are different styles ranging from $8-15 for a full set. Lastly you need some carabiners and a strap. For the carabiners they can be the cheap Walmart ones that cost like 1-2 dollars or you can get the real climbing ones. I used 4 per backpack. One on each side and 2 on the front. They keep the strap from slipping up or down.

The one on the left has my Viair 450p portable compressor with all related gear. The one on the right is a mini bug-out-bag which would keep me much more comfortable in case of emergency.

Tailgate Table with Molle Bags:

I have a tailgate table from Springtail which has enough Molle slots for 2 large Molle bags. One has my first aid kit and the other has gloves, trash bags, bungee cords, duct tape, paracord, etc.

Yup. All together this is probably more storage than most people will want or need but it is better to have too much than too little. I hope this helps someone!

getting the jack up there is pretty easy. It is designed so you can put in place without having to hold it up and then you can bolt it in. What makes it difficult is removing the add on brackets to hold the shovel and the axe.

This bag from duluth trading is on it's second vehicle, 6 years old and still solid. You can pack so much crap in this thing. Sometime it's on the seat sometimes in the back strapped to the roll bar. It has grommets for other mounting options. A 6$ Harbor freight moving blanket make a nice floor protector. Just my 2cents.

Where's your water? You and the dog will need water. I always brought a big blue Walmart cube jug with about 5 gallons. I hated it loose in the back on the floor Then I saw exactly what I had been looking for when another member posted here. He had a flat tank mounted between the rear window and the rollbar. I stole his idea and made my own brackets at a friend's big shop. I mounted a 4 gal rotopax clone between the driver side rear window and rollbar, made some parts to put a spigot on it. Still need to fabricate a little retaining part to keep it from sliding forward (using the tiedown for now, but the support brackets are all done and I've used it for a full year, rock crawling and hunting.
