Did you clear coat it? I use rustolem paint and when I tried clear coat it same brand it ate the dam paint and ruined my parts.
I didn't clear coat mine. The paint I used has a nice metallic grit to it, so I kept it bare.

Dupli Color Perfect Match, Charcoal Grey Metallic.

Yes, if you move your hand over it, it's got that nice sand texture feel. And you can see the metallic particles in it. I like that premium look over flat black or grey.

I really like how this looks. This thread was super helpful. I also used this link

Didn't like the silver so it had to go. Will get around to the fog light bezels eventually, but just the grille for now. Definitely scuff/sand the plastic before painting. Itā€™s too smooth to adhere. I also recommend a good primer. Not as dark as I was hoping, but definitely better than the silver.

What did you use to paint the inserts? I know you said you hoped it would be darker but color seems to match the bumper well.

Nice job! I'm just totally sold on the Rust-oleum paint/primer spray. The matte black I used on my bezels is just holding up beautifully, no matter what I throw at it. Just got back from another trip of several hundred miles of rain, bug hits, etc, and it looks fantastic. Almost like stuff has a problem sticking to it (I did use the Rust-oleum matte clear coat, too). Your bezels turned out great! šŸ‘

If Anyone is interested in getting the old silver inserts for a good price, let me know!!

Jeep only has 10K Miles on it. The driver's side fog light insert has a small crack, but isnt cracked all the way through - see pic. Let me know if interested!!

Has anyone done this on a 4xe yet, if so, can you confirm the part numbers that fit?

Sahara 4xe here, painted my grill inserts and fog light bezels yesterday. Havenā€™t seen many white Jeepā€™s posting this mod so I figured Iā€™d share. I used Rustoleum paint+primer in flat black. The flat black is pretty damn close to matching the black plastic bumper and the pieces look oem. It took less than 1 can to paint all the pieces with 4 coats of paint.

I do have a regret though. I used Rustoleum Chalked matte clear coat on the pieces. I had this leftover from another painting project and didnā€™t want to buy another can of clear so I used what I had. I forgot that this clear coat leaves the appearance of a dusty layer as it dries (which itā€™s intended to do), so the pieces appear a bit dusty even though theyā€™re completely clean. Not the biggest deal I suppose since the jeep will likely never be fully clean (especially the front grill area), but itā€™s a minor annoyance to be mindful of. I would recommend using a different clear coat.

Ok now pics!

Appreciate this thread as i finally got around to swapping out the fog light bezel. Although i have no idea how yall managed to get out the metal nut insert clip without breaking the plastic. Tried for a few mins with pliers but my patience ran out quickly and i just said scew it and ripped off the plastic casing to get to a good angle to squeeze.

Grill up next!
