Removing the center console is one of the easier DIY tasks involving our JL's.

There are 4 bolts under 4 plastic covers. The following pictures highlight the process, including how to remove the 4WD Shift Handle. The round covers are in the front, the square ones are in the back (accessible after pulling both seats forward).

The frame around the 4WD handle simply pops off, as it's secured by body clips.

Tools: 10mm Socket for the 4 Bolts and a T-25 Torx for the gear shift handle.

PS: There's no reason to remove the 4 small Torx screws on the ball of the handle.

This is perfect, as I need to fix my cupholder. I pulled out the rubber liner thinking I could easily put it back in... not so...

Thank you for the write up! Used it to access the plate to adjust my handbrake slack.

I'd reach out to Benny at @AllMoparParts.com, a great sponsor here, and he can check part numbers to see if they're similar. I can't imagine they're different, though before I went through all of that, there are numerous ways to add surface mount USB ports and a power inverter.

The 110v outlet cannot be added by simply adding in the plug, There is an inverter and most likely additional wiring needed to make this work. If you want the USB's to work those can most likely be made operational by replacing the console harness with part # 68350769AE

Do I see that correctly? The Transfer case on this is not direct linkage but is cable driven? So it can be moved?

Lito, I think you need to clarify your question. If you are asking to swap in a console with a 110 outlet and expect it to work the answer is no if your Jeep was not originally equipped with this option.

If you want to know if it will fit dimensionally then yes that's not a problem.

Anyone know what the pry off plastic cover is for on the front of the gear shift surround?

It sounds like your talking about the access panel for the gear shift release when the JL has a dead battery.

Well, that sounds reasonable. Now I will have to hit the Owner Manual to see what it is about... and how to use it. Only 800 miles on the Rubicon so far. Thanks for the answer.

This post perfectly coincides with my plan to try and run a phone cord from the center console to my phone mount. I don’t like the cord hanging across the controls. Anyone have any suggestions.

Not sure how you are planning the route for your phone. I used the access cover to bring a 3.5mm plug from under the passenger seat up to the AUX In so my GMRS radio could use the vehicle radio and speakers. The access panel has a light rubber strap that can be removed, I took the access cover to the work bench and drilled a hole so that cable could pass through. Then reassembled the strap and popped the access cover back in place.
