I zip tied the bracket for the control box to the plastic ventilation tube behind the glove box. There's plenty of room back there. You can also use double-sided tape, or some self-tapping screws to various mounting options behind the glove box.Do you have pictures of how you mounted control box?
Great write up. Thank you. Noted for future reference.@Smike83 @Fastmover and all others interested- finally finished my Write up for a DIY overhead CB bar mount. Check it out here

Hey moonpup,Here's my Kenwood TM-V71A installed. The antenna is a dual band Diamond SG-7500 super gainer, using an 3/8 inch NMO mount. I like the mirror install above, but was not an option for me as I have the assist and emergency buttons up there, anyway...
In my past Jeeps (98 TJ, 04 Rubi) I always just ran it along the passenger side tub wall, behind the B pillar, down the door jam, tucked it behind the limiting strap peg, and then removed the glove box front and ran it up behind the dash that way. With the JL, there is some paneling that may need to be removed but I'm pretty sure you could just tuck it under the corner of the panel once you get to the passenger doorjam. What is the best route to run the coax from tailgate to front under dash? 2dr
I really like this setup. May I ask, where did you get that aluminum mic holder?Mic holder is just held with zip ties so I can remove it when not using
i just fabed it up as a quick holder that i could remove after tripsI really like this setup. May I ask, where did you get that aluminum mic holder?
It looks great. Where did you install the control box and how did you route your wiring?Hello guys,
I believe this is the best place to install a HAM radio. I am using ICOM IC-2730a in this installation.
Below are some of the benefits
- Not taking and space in the windshield
- way above so it is not disturbing
- neat and almost factory look
- easy access
- visible
Check out post #29 on the following thread. Nice clean speaker install.Has anyone come up with a good auxiliary speaker/location for their CB or Ham radio?
I'm working out the install details for the Icom 2730 ham radio and think I have most of my issues solved with the exception of where to mount an auxiliary speaker. I'm planning on installing the main radio unit in the front passenger foot well or behind the glove box, while the control unit would be located above the rear view mirror using the Trigger 6 Shooter Remote Mount. I just need to get a decent sounding speaker into the cabin and mounted so as not the be in the way or interfere with anything else.
That is a clean install, looks balanced. However, I'm not sure I need 2 speakers for this purpose.Check out post #29 on the following thread. Nice clean speaker install.
