Hi Jim

Yes, when I have the antenna on and it hits branches or after big bumps, etc. it will bang against the hard top. I keep the antenna off except when I know I'm going to be on the trail that day, and the banging doesn't annoy me that much, but you may feel differently. So far no real mark on the top from the banging, but I have black hard top touch up paint, so I can "fix" it if needed.

And if I get tired of it, I'll just remove the spring or figure out something else. :like:
I certainly appreciate the information. Thanks!

I used a 5” top load Ram Mount track. Size B ball. Short arm and universal electronics mount on size B. I ran the coax under all of the carpet up behind the AC controls and Uconnect. Antenna mount is a CoolTech LLC with a 4’ FireStik. I may change the antenna mount to the bottom hinges if it becomes a problem.

Once I get a quick disconnect for power, I will run it through the hole in the dash as well. For now, it is just the 12v DC cigarette lighter plug.

Uniden CMX760 mounted in the passenger foot well, with a Quadratec tailgate mount kit. I haven't mounted a hook for the speaker-mic yet, but I have a RAM ball mount on the dash that will hold it. I also installed the Quadratec trail flag kit. The hardtop glass will rub on the antenna if the tailgate is not open all the way. I imagine the Cool Tech bracket would be even worse since it's closer to the hinge.

I leave both the 4' CB antenna and 5' flag off and tied to the roll bar under the hardtop when not in use.

I love this approach since I've both CB and ham antennas to mount. Did you fabricate the left mount? I don't see that option on Quadratec's site.

Do you have a picture of where you mounted the brain behind the glovebox? I have been contemplating mounting the brain on top of the speaker box to the right side behind the glove box but I'm looking for other options.

I'll try to take one tonight. But basicly with the bearcat. I pulled the carpet out and put it just to the left of the glove box. It didnt want to stay in place behind the glove box.

The left side comes with the trail flag. It's a mirror image and would just need a proper ground like the CB mount has.

Just installed a CB. I didn't want to drill any holes anywhere, so thanks to @Gogged and @ToolMan514. After reading their posts I went with a Midland 75-822 with a JeepUniq grab-bar mount, and a Quadratec Antenna mount. I also put on a Firestik quick disconnect so I can pull it in the garage.

Standard Cooltech setup except I ditched the Firering cable and went with a regular Firestik K-4A antenna mount and a better Cable. I could not get good SWR with the Firering cable.

Preview of my DIY overhead CB bar mount for a full sized CB Radio. Once I get the wires ran and the antenna installed, I will have a write up on my build thread (linked in my signature).

Also, for anyone asking: I got the Quadratec mounts pictured above- you can use the flag mount as a cb antenna mount (I am). Once again, I’ll post pictures once I get the wires run. Need a different connector for the antenna.

EDIT: straight coax connection works fine- the horizontal “Fire Ring style cable” isn’t needed but is probably a nicer option. If you’re going that route you may need a double ended male connector for your antenna (I need to get one).

Just got back from a trail run over the weekend. This was our first time using the Cobra and Cooltech kit. It worked like a champ and i loved using the magnetic pad for a mic mount. If you're considering where/how to mount the mic, i highly suggest the magnetic pad option. Was nice and easy. The pic on the backside doesnt show the screw going through it. This pic was just mocking up placement. Theres a flat screw that helps hold that metal disc on.

Once again, I’ll post pictures once I get the wires run. Need a different connector for the antenna.

I like that! I can’t wait to see the write up. I decided to go with the small cobra handheld and am not a fan. So now I’m going back to the full size CB
