I've been running a Bearcat CB Radio for quite some time and with the ever growing standardization of communications heading towards GMRS, I thought it was time to add a radio.

I didn't want to try and stuff two little radios behind the glovebox. Having one back there is perfect, but I'd rather have them somewhere else.

I went looking this morning for a different mounting location, so I took the passenger seat out and removed the carpet and started putting things together. I had an old stainless kick plate for a door laying around, so I started cutting it apart to see what I could come up with.

I'm super happy with the resulting idea. It came together pretty nice with some tight tolerances, but plenty of clearance along with the ability to remove both radios for service or access the antenna plugs if tuning would be required.

If you have any questions, please ask. This one is my first-off prototype. I'll put one together in SolidWorks and get it cut out and bent.

I’ll get the rest of the pics tomorrow after I wire it up.

Nice job Shawn! Looks good. I need to get a GMRS in my Jeep as well. Seems to be the going route these days and with the new low license fees, why not.

It’s a Snap-On KRLP1023 TUV. I’ve had this one for many years. Pretty awesome looking box. I bought one of the original pit boxes about 13 years ago or so and fell in love with the TUV style. I had the ironhead version, as well, but sold it to a friend of mine when I closed my shop.

Here’s the wiring. The power and RF cables fit under the tab of carpet I cut. The trim piece is still removable with no issues. I used the ground stud next to the center console.

I’ll end up using my Power Tank bracket for my GMRS antenna mount. (Whenever that decides to show up.)

I’ll get the seat reinstalled here in a minute and take some final pics of the stack install.
