Intresting, I was offered $34.5K by VROOM yesterday for my 2017 JKUR (Hard Rock, no mods), 2018 October I did get a trade-in quote from Carmax and it was around $32 K.
I should have mentioned, Carvana listed it as 37 and some change, dropped to 2k for taxes.
I don't have any mods that would make someone pay a boatload more, just a few minor things, stubby antenna, swapped all speakers, ran new speaker wire, and changed all halogen to LED.
I still have all of the original lights, I'd throw that box in the back ... no charge.

Someone mentioned location ... higher demand in TX than CO?
Probably, I think historically CO has high resale for Wranglers.

What was interesting for me is trade-in is substantially higher than the value from 2018 for the same vehicle. (Car Max and KBB values).

NADA has mine around 32 even. It all depends on where you look it up. I'd like to see what a dealer around here would offer. I might go ask for a trade-in quote. I don't want to go through the whole process of trying to buy a car first. I am curious if they would do that. I know I can tack on a little more than that first trade-in amount.

Absolutely.

I traded my 3-year old JK with 60,000 miles on it with a very questionable manual transmission for my JL and only ate $3k on it versus what I bought it for new. That includes taking the majority of my modifications off, too. I've got a Challenger I bought new that ate more the second I drove it off the lot that I know I'll never get back.

I did even better with my TJ, which I still miss to this day. I actually made about $500 on that trade.

I was surprised. 2020 Rubicon with a few options. Carvana offering 46k which is slightly over what i paid for it.

Covid threw everything for a loop. Automobile trends and market is very abnormal right now. Prices for used cars were at record lows 2 months ago. In the last month or so they went up drastically. Production slowed for new cars and the used car market absorbed some of that demand.

Carvana has algorithms for pricing based on demographics, supply, demand, trends, etc. They need to replenish inventory. They were caught with their pants down. Carvana stopped buying cars when the pandemic first started. They have less inventory to sell as a result. Now they need to catch up by buying. They also are know to buy and sell accident free cars with clean histories. They pay a little more for them. Currently there is a shortage of used cars. On average most used car values went up a little over the last month or so.

Oh yeah I forgot about this. So I put in my VIN and options and carvana offered $45,xxx (I can't remember since it was a few days ago). My jeep is a rather fully loaded JL Unlimited Rubicon. There was a -$2600-ish market adjustment because apparently blue jeep rubicons aren't popular in my market (no surprise, it's not a Toyota, lol).

So anyway, that would be $4-5k less than the price I paid before tax and maybe about $10k less than my all-in price. Ouchie. Almost a 20% hit in 3800 miles/1 year lol. Sounds like I bought a BMW.

Well, that doesn't surprise me too much. What made me laugh was the value they offered was about $2k less than their KBB trade in range graphic. It said something like $47-49k hahahaha.

Edit: And like everyone else, of course I'm not selling!

My 2018 JLU Sahara has only 4,700 miles. It had a MSRP of $50,000; nine months ago I paid $38,000 + tax & lic. I added Mopar LEDs and Katzkin leather seats for $2,000.

KBB says my JL is now worth $42,000 in trade; $46,000 in private sale!

It is tempting.

But a 2020 JL with everything mine has (V6, auto, Selec-Trac, color-matched hardtop, Cold Weather Group, Safety Group, Tow Group, 8.4” with navigation, Alpine sound, proximity locks, etc.), now has a MSRP of $52,000. Plus there are no guarantees that the steering will be okay.

You got a good Jeep, stick with it. They'll retain their value for a long time. Maybe not like this presently but good enough to not care over the long term. IRC you had a 2013 and 2015 you wish you never got rid of, right? Don't go down that road again. If anything sell it when a premium engine is available like the inline turbo.

Out of curiosity I checked my KBB trade in which is $32,859-35,802. Private party $36,891-40,216. I paid $38,000 before tax so that's pretty solid.

I sold my 2018 wrangler unlimited sport to Carvana about 3 weeks ago. I bought it new, MSRP was $35k, i paid $31k for it, i sold it to Carvana for $29.2k with 34k miles and they just sold it on their website for $33k last week so at least in Chicago they're pretty desirable right now.

I haven't checked Carvana but looked at Carmax the other day. Can't believe what they're asking for used Jeeps. 7 yrs old, 90k miles, $28,500 +tax/fees. I can't see how buying a new one doesn't make more sense.

LOL, I just tried. they offered me $34,500 for my 2019 JLUR 27k miles. I do have an unfortunate accident report that knocked it down $4k. So lets say $39.5K for a vehicle I paid 42k for 2 yrs ago isn't a bad return... If I would trade it in, But that's not going to happen anytime soon!

I got an offer $1,500 under what I paid (pre-tax) 18 months ago. If the new TSB doesn't fix the steering problems I might consider it...

I could tell you, but then....
Nothing for me. A shade over $31k for my loaded ‘18 JLR with 27,000 miles. No thanks. Would do better with a private party sale. Fun to look though.
