I'll go with Location Location Location and then after that roughly decreasing by the same ratios. Rubicon cost is higher so the decrease is higher and the longer it goes on the less money the percentage takes so you end up as you stated - closer than expected. Of course the baseline is stock so you would have to factor in the cost of anything added that was not on it originally on either one. On average I would think adding more to a model that was cheaper with a little less on it to begin with.

When I bought my JLU Sport recently, I had the dealer run the residual values on a Sahara and Rubicon as well. The Rubicon actually had the lowest residual value. I forget the actual percentages, but I remember Sport being the highest (maybe 72%?), followed by Sahara (60ish%). The Rubicon was much lower, though I can't really explain why.
If you are financing though, interest rates are lower for Rubicon and Sahara models than they are for Sport and Sport S.

I priced out a Sport S and was going for that when I saw financing terms offered by my bank. I could get a better optioned Sahara for the same monthly payment of a Sport S. So I went with a Sahara. I had my eye on a Rubicon too after I saw that about interest rates, but I had to keep telling myself the Sahara is more than capable for my needs. But damn those Rubicons look good.

I saw a Carvana.com ad that said they will buy your car and even come pick it up, additionally they would provide a immediate quote online (not even you email required, how refreshing). So We have a Infinity G37 Hardtop Convertible i plan to sell so I thought I would give it a try. The infinity price not very impressive though.

So I tried my 2018 Sahara, Plugged in the VIN and answered the option questions and the quote popped up at $35,879. I only paid $39,400 (14.5% off MSRP)

https://www.carvana.com/sellyourcar

For those with JLU-JLUS and want to move to a Rubicon this may be an option to minimize loss.

for me though staying with the Sahara as Rubicons are too heavy to tow behind most Gas Motorhomes. Plus I do not Rock Crawl and I really like the LSD read end

I also ran my Tesla Model S to see value and I was pleasantly surprised at the value as well

Only offered me 29k for my 2017 fully loaded sahara with 22k miles on it.. not bad, but not special

That's pretty impressive. Curious if it has anything to do with what region of the country you're in...

Couldn’t tell you there. Just glad it has worked out favorably for us. The 2012 I traded paid for half my new Rubicon which helped me get a little nicer ride than I otherwise would have.

Check this out: - supply is low, so used car prices are on the rise.

Carvana is now selling many of the JL's from the rental agency's, Hertz who is going out of busiuness so the value of used JL's has dropped due to the flood of rental JL's for sale.

Intresting, I was offered $34.5K by VROOM yesterday for my 2017 JKUR (Hard Rock, no mods), 2018 October I did get a trade-in quote from Carmax and it was around $32 K.
Someone mentioned location ... higher demand in TX than CO?
