Car brake failure on sharp incline and back once press gas

Not sure if any one of you experience this. i was waiting for traffic light on a incline slope. I loose the brake pad, the car didnt slide, which was good (Still in D gear). But when i tried to press the brake pad again, the brake pad was locked. then i press the gas, and the brake pad worked again. Is that a brake malfunctioning?

Nailed it. I turned the equivalent off in my jk unless Im on a steep trail. It can be turned off through the evic.

so to avoid roll back on hill, is with the prerequisite that the brake is locked? got confused but at lease it is not a malfunction

thanks, so so far my understanding is once Hill assist engages, the brake pad will be locked...

Hill Start Assist (HSA)
The HSA system is designed to mitigate roll back from a
complete stop while on an incline. If the driver releases the
brake while stopped on an incline, HSA will continue to
hold the brake pressure for a short period. If the driver
does not apply the throttle before this time expires, the
system will release brake pressure and the vehicle will roll
down the hill as normal.
