I'm new to the Tazer and am wondering if this is possible and the procedures/steps to do so.

Do I need to unmarry the Tazer in the console, then plug in the usb cable and update?

Thanks in advance

I sent Z Automotive a couple of emails and asked if this was the correct procedure:

1. Unplug the two connectors for tazer jl mini
2. Plug tazer jl mini into laptop with USB cable
3. Use ZPU and Automatic Update feature to update to latest firmware
4. Disconnect USB cable
5. Plug two connectors back into tazer jl mini

No marrying or unmarrying and no need for full reboot cycle? (there are some posts on jlwranglerforums that discuss unmarrying and full reboot)

Their response was, "You've got it just right."

Thank you! I was hoping I could leave the mini plugged in and then connect the usb cable and update.

If anybody still visits this old thread...

I have confirmed with Z Automotive Support that you can leave the Tazer JL connected to your vehicle and perform firmware updates. Ideally with the vehicle turned OFF. This is especially helpful for owners who rely on the PIN lock feature and have the Tazer buried deep behind the dash. I leave a USB cable connected that I can access when needed.
