Thanks

Why would you need to charge it?

I would consult the dealer service department before attempting to even touch that battery.

Sometimes I park my Jeep for many days, normally what I do is a tender or recharge the battery... wondering if the same can be done with the 40volt one

Lithium ion battery do not need trickle charging. Infact it could damage it.

Don’t bother, all it does is supply power during the start stop. Worst case if the voltage is low from sitting the start stop won’t work right away until it charges enough.

Admittedly, I know very little about how the battery system works but I thought the 48v was involved in starting the engine. I imagine I’m wrong and hope I am because that makes charging a bit simpler. There are some good threads on the battery system here for the 3.6 but almost no information on the 2.0.

Here is my (limited) understanding.
  • 12v still starts the engine on cold.
  • 48v re-starts the engine during start/stop operation (after initial cold start)
  • 48v can keep 12v charged (not sure if it does this even when vehicle is off, but my guess is yes.)
  • your vehicle will still cold start on dead 48v battery but charged 12v battery, but not vice versa.

My understanding too.

Thank you very much. That makes sense and makes me feel better. I’ve been a bit worried about this configuration, especially since I have a fridge now.
