Can a California resident tell me what that means?

am I understanding that everyone is to ‘stay at home’ and Only “essential” businesses can operate? What are they?

specifically, I am look for things like:

1) internet fulfillment warehouses. Are they “essential”?
2) over the road truck drivers delivering freight and can that freight be received at businesses?
3) local drivers UPS/Fedex etc. can they pickup and deliver?
4) gas stations
5) maintenance bays at car dealerships or other maintenance bays — say a 4x4 shop?
6).plumbers on construction sites or, for that matter, construction workers of any kind building a building or road?
7) what about moving companies..... somebody is trying to exit a house that was sold and the new owner coming in. Can the moving companies move folks?

And, for those of you now being told to “stay home” and not go to work (I.e. maybe not get paid), how were you notified? Did your boss just call you and say: the State required us to close, we’ll call you when we are back open?”

Google for shelter in place - this is what they've declared for citizens. It will reach a point that only groceries and pharmacies are open; but currently some of the other "big box stores" are open such as HomeDepot, etc. Perhaps those will stay open as considered essential. Hours are limited currently.

In Maryland the governor made the announcement and it went out on all local news as well as the all-Maryland autodialer.

Amazon has announced it stops processing intake of non-essential goods, but will continue to ship while they have stock. After that it's essential goods only.

Many groceries are now only doing curb-side pickup or drop offs - nobody allowed in except limited staff.

The below is from wikipedia:

During an epidemic or pandemic with an infectious agent posing significant risk of death or severe illness, authorities may recommend "Shelter in Place" for the general population or for segments of the population at high-risk. Unlike other "Shelter in Place" incidents, recommendations may only be for particular at-risk populations (e.g., the elderly, the immunocompromised) and the recommended duration may be for an extended period of time (days, weeks or months). Shelter in Place may be implemented as a strategy for suppressing or mitigating an epidemic, for reducing numbers of critically ill patients presenting at the same time and for thus reducing the impact of critical illness on health care systems and reducing the likelihood that a surge in illness will overwhelm critical care resources. Shelter in Place may apply specifically to individuals or groups judged to be at-risk for death or serious complications if infected, and contrasts with Self-Isolation (voluntarily seclusion at home to prevent infecting others) and Quarantine (voluntary or involuntary seclusion of individuals exposed to infection for a period to determine infection status). Shelter in Place over extended periods in epidemics may involve significant logistical considerations including measures to safely provide food, medication and other supplies over time as well as arrangements for social and psychological support.

Here in MD restaurants, bars, clubs, etc, were ordered to close Monday at 5pm. I was out Monday night for beers and wings with a bunch of friends as most places still opened. But now things are mostly closed.

Not sure what happens if you don't close - if they even both to check and hand out fines.

What also was interesting is "shelter in place" you are still allowed to enjoy outdoor facilities like state parks, walk your pets, etc, etc. Just stay 2m apart while doing it.

So, the state wants all these workers to stay home.
so, no payroll tax revenue
And, when they stay home they also can’t shop.
So, no sales tax revenue.

I have no idea how the muni bonds get paid in a state that is already essentially bankrupt (or any other State for that matter). Pension funding? Good luck. Cuts coming?

1) fulfillment centers are open. We've (bay area) been on SIP since Monday and personally since mid last week. Online orders for food and stuff were normal up until Monday night but right now if I try to order fresh items from Whole Foods or Safeway, no delivery dates are available (system only schedules 2-3 days out)

2) Yes

3) Yes

4) Open

5) Open

6) Not sure, probably depends on the union?

7) Open / Yes

Work sent out an email Friday notifying everyone to work at home until 4/4, prior to the SIP place order which has since superseded.

Best advice if you have food delivery is to order stuff. Now. (not because of product shortages....because of delivery driver shortages until they ramp up)

Kalifornia is a shit show. Notices go out, few hours later they get redacted, some not heeding the warning because “it doesn’t apply to them”, homeless commandeering hotel (has nothing to do with CV19 just the governor pushing his homeless agenda” and the list goes on and on.

Here is KY the folks are calm. Governor comes on live TV everyday at 5 and talks the facts. Keeping everyone calm, shares all the pertinent info and sites and numbers to get assistance, shares ways to help parents with kids at home etc etc. Amazing. He isn’t pushing his political agenda, doesn’t talk partisan BS, nothing. Just a smart human leading the state.

Thank you for this information.
Just got input from a brother-in-law in construction that most sites in California are/will be shutting down. The only construction that will continue is critical infrastructure - but that will happen with additional restrictions.

Los Angels alone has 150,000 homeless who can’t shelter in place or wash their hands 20 times a day. How does California hope to get a handle on this if a significant portion of its population can’t obey the rules? Same goes for any state that has a significant homeless population. Will the SIP remain in effect until after the homeless population has been ravaged and no longer a threat of infecting the general population?

Not what we're hearing. Construction, including housing and other development, are being allowed to continue. Our company services the building trades and we have not heard of any contractors stopping construction on any projects. Yet. Of course the situation is still fluid and folks are trying to figure out what they can and can't do.

EDIT: Plumbers, pest control, etc. are all considered critical and are continuing operations.

I spoke to him tonight to see how he and family was doing and he stated again all shut down. Are you in the Bay Area or somewhere else in CA?
