Buying a hardtop from an individual and need to know if I need to remove the brackets in the front for the freedom panels to latch to. Can someone confirm please?

do you have the brackets in your currently? I thought the soft top and hard top used the same ones.

Hard top only needs the bolts.

All the brackets and plastic parts are for the soft top.

What about the spots where the plastic levers from the freedom top turn and latch to?

That's fixed and shared between the soft and hard top

In case you didn't already know - you won't have the wiring for wiper or defroster, nor the wiper fluid plumbing.

Some bad info being given here. If you have soft top only, you will need the front brackets, the brackets at the speaker bar and obviously you won’t have screws nor the wiring for wiper. Here is a list of parts you will need(brackets and screws).

Just to confirm, I need the front brackets and the bracket by the speakerbar. Should I remove these from the donor vehicle?

Most likely you will have to remove the two brackets and bolts above the mirror and the two brackets and bolts above the speaker bar from the donor vehicle. These brackets did not come equipped on my “soft top only” optioned 2018 JLU. I understand they would be included on “dual top” JLs from the factory. If they will not let you take them the bracket kits can be purchased from a dealer. I sourced a “new take off” hard top from a dealer last Fall and they provided me the additional brackets and hardware. You will also need the bolts for the main top. There are 8 I believe. Not critical for the transfer if you have other tools but you could also ask about the hard top tool kit from the donor Jeep. Includes a ratchet and torx male sockets. They may not let them go as I believe you can use the same toolkit to remove the doors.

Would also recommend that you ask about the factory insulation kit. Sometimes this kit may have been pre-ordered or installed by the dealer. My top included the insulation kit. I recall was about $4-500 if ordered from the dealer.

I have seen the hard top wiring kit for the JL going for $260-325. Several online videos available for both top install and wiring kit install. I have waited to install the wiring kit. Not been too bad this winter. Just have to manually clean the rear window once a week or so. The rear defroster would have come in handy a few times so may look to install the kit sometime in the near future.

Hope this helps.
