Normally I would run fast the other way "but". Daughter will be trading cars soon, she loves my Jeep. She found a a Punkin 2018 Buy back out of California. The Car fax says issue was wandering/vibration. So it will always have a branded title. But it is a very well equipped Sport S hardtop. With low miles under $37K. It has the steering stabilizer, I'm thinking if the stock steering box has been replaced with the steel unit it might not be a bad deal. She has driven my 2018 Sport S multiple times with no issue. I know Jeeps and can help her out with mods. She is a police officer so she isn't your run of the mill kid fresh out of school. Any thoughts?

Would you marry a former porn star...? Would you trust a pedophile to babysit your children...? Would you hire an embezzler to do your accounting...? Would you hire a convicted burglar to be your house cleaner...?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this Jeep may be just what you need!

I don't know myself maybe if the steering box was changed but I would perhaps roll with Retrograde. Pay a little more get a little more peace of mind. Hell a new one is not all that bad of a price plus all the little standards now are nice.

My ‘19 JLR was bought back because of steering. I had replaced the LCAs with the Mopar lift LCAs and the steering gear with PSC—edit to add that we also replaced the track bar with Steersmarts and the dampener with Falcon.

I took it to a Jeep specialist a couple times and the dealer five times.

It was so bad we had to turn around while driving to Tahoe because it was so squirrelly on the mountain highway. Every drive was a white-knuckle adventure.

Someone ended up buying that Jeep. I wonder if they ended up completely re-building all the steering and suspension, which would have been my plan if I didn’t win arbitration.

I had one serious hell of a fight with FCA during the repair attempts and buy back arbitration.

Anyhooooo
all that to say that if it was bad enough that FCA was forced to buy it back, I would NOT want my daughter to drive it.

Seems like a bad deal. A base 22’ Willys is 37k and has the updated steering. Typically there’s no extended warranty or financing on a branded title.

Maybe mid $20,000’s and you still have a wandering Jeep.

That was my thinking Yogi, 37 seems way to close to a nice new fresh Wrangler.

Right?!? :)

My husband had a ’12 JKUR that I loved. We took it to Moab and Colorado and I was soooooooooo bummed when he sold it.

The fight I had with FCA over my ‘19 was so stressful I was ready to punt. We had spent a lot of time and money trying to get that JLR to work. I had a binder of notes and emails with FCA.

I was thinking about completely building it out if I lost, but part of me was so over it I was shopping Macans.

The buyback process was a whole other story. I was very anxious about the replacement Jeep and was so relieved when it could steer!

I love this thing.

That is a sweet Wrangler! Glad it has been great now, I have had 3 of them no issues. I would not be trading up if I knew the Diesel was released in 2020! Ugh.

Just curious and no reason to answer but when they buy back do they give you market value or your original out the door price?

Was a super nice color! Too bad Jeep is spastic on their colors but maybe good for the off the wall colors!

Thanks. I love the Punk’n so much and it still makes me smile every time I go into the garage.

The buyback was MSRP to MSRP for the replacement. The prices went up for 2020 and I had to pay the difference . I expected to pay extra for the painted fenders and 4 door (‘19 was a 2 door), but paying for price increases for things I had on the ‘19?!? Ugh.

Horrible deal. A lot of banks won’t loan on it cause it’s a branded title. Sure $37k sounds like a good deal, but it’s not. When you go to trade it the dealer will bid it about $5-$8k less than normal and blame the title on it. It might be a problem free vehicle. I have sold some that were bought back for silly reasons, but in my opinion I wouldn’t go near that thing.

As someone who had FCA buy a vehicle back once: I wouldn’t touch it.

By definition, the prior owner deemed that despite repeated attempts, the vehicle was never satisfactorily fixed, so s/he requested FCA to issue a buy back.

For its part, FCA goes through a very thorough and deliberate process before agreeing to do a buy back. Which means FCA had to agree that the vehicle wasn’t repairable to a condition that would be considered satisfactory by most of us.

Sounds like there is a strong consensus here. I wouldn't touch it.

Just purchasing somebody else problems. Normally a buy back means, that the Dealer/Factory was not able to correct the problem. I SUGGEST THAT YOU RUN FROM IT.............
