I haven't seen many posts with this sort of design so wanted to share my new hardtop shelf. I'm lucky to have 10' tall ceilings in my garage, which gives me lots of options, but I didn't love the idea of leaving the hardtop hanging from the ceiling given the risk of falling. So here's what I came up with.
The main shelves are 27" deep and the top shelf is 80" off the ground and 42" deep so I have space to walk under it (I'm 6'1"). I lined the shelf with carpet for easier sliding and less risk of damage but it also provides a safe spot to store freedom tops and soft top windows. I can back my Jeep up right to the shelf and I hooked up a simple rope block and tackle (less than $30 online) to help lift. My wife pulled the block and tackle while I pushed up from the inside and it was very simple to lift and slide onto the shelf.
Overall I'm very happy with this design and even with high lumber prices it was still a good value, didn't take long to build and added more storage in my garage.
