Thanks for all the replies…and to those who asked…no you can’t have it! 🤪

Dropped it at my local dealership, they’ve done a good job previously with my JLUR and my service manager is a good guy, so I feel fortunate there.

We did a quick check on the parts that might be required…all greyed out in their system. Not a good sign.

They will be taking a look in the morning. Obviously hoping it’s something simple like tightening rather than a torn or defective part. Might be a big hassle finding them *sigh*

I have a question about cv joints on Jeeps. For non Jeep vehicles, the cv joint is at risk after driving through high levels of water.

Water gets inside the boot and washes out all of the grease. If steps are not taken to replace the grease, metal will rub against metal and the cv joint will be destroyed.

A few months ago, I drove a regular car through a flat stretch of road during heavy rains. When the mechanic took off the right cv joint boot, he had to drain out water.

How does this compare with Jeeps? Has anyone here had to re-grease the cv joint after a water crossing?

What @Jamrock said. When and why did FCA start doing CV boots on Jeeps?

Any JLU with the upgraded auto 4WD will have CV in the front. My Moab has them. The seem to be sealed really well. Once they go out I will be slapping some RCV's in the axle :)

You ever seen the amount of grease in a CV? A lot more than is on the axle housing.

Sam
What you see on the axle is a small fraction of what leaked. Most of it is splattered all over the road between his dealership and his house.

When did jeep switch to CV joints? I really don’t like these because of the boot can tear and you don’t notice it for weeks before failure.

Quick question, I hope. Lots of people talking about RCV. How does that help my 392 CV joint? I'm all for making my Jeep tougher and i just don't know anything about CV joints.

Holy Cow! That is a CV boot failure... You better get that fixed! (Apparently you cannot be told that enough!) :like:

Pretty sure it's related to increased comfort or a hair of an mpg increase or something dumb - since the front axle is driven full time in these systems they don't want the bucking associated with U joints being driven through a tight turn.

Just picked up my 392 XR yesterday and drove it home about 500 miles. Thing drives like a dream! Really shocking how much tighter the steering is compared to my 2018 JLUR.

Anyway, was underneath it this morning and spotted this green grease inside the front driver side wheel.

Thoughts?

hmmmmm either you were caught driving behind a loaded avocado truck that spilled a bunch on the road and slammed into your jeep or this is some weird green grease! ;)

All Bronco SUV’s have CV boots.😂🤣
Yes. I noticed that.

I am waiting to see how they handle water crossings.

To be fair though. CV joint boots on a typical car are relatively thin pieces of rubber fastened with tie straps. They are mainly designed to keep the grease in. Perhaps they will also keep dust out.

I would expect Jeeps and Broncos to have more robust solutions.
