Awesome pics, I do miss the simple elegance of the past. As cool as these CJs and YJs were, none of these would meet the motor vehicle safety or emissions regulations today. Even when I was in high school fox back mustang 5.0 GTs, YJ jeeps, etc. Good times, I don't think people worried about paint bubbles at the door hinges or visors that break off. :)

I think I only paid 1800 for my CJ7 in like 89 :) Man probably worth 10x that now!

That was a lot of money though as a teen!

Bought this ’80 CJ5 new as soon as I had the bucks. In line 6cyl would get me 14-19 mpg. It would eventually get up to 55 mph on the highway, and this time of year the heat wouldn’t keep up with all the draft. Capable off the shelf as can be, never left me walkin’ Reason why I returned to the fold now!

Wow, that was exactly what mine looked like. An 80 cj7 with a 304 and 3spd. Oh yours is a cj5 but same color top, jeep, graphics and tires

Mine was a 1971 CJ5 with the Dauntless V6. the 90 degree V6 with the idle that sounded like it had a big cam. 2" Rancho lift, I too wish I still had it, but its the reason I have the 2 door JL now.

Yeah I’m sure they built them like mine, but when I had it I never saw one with the color scheme. At the time I really liked the red ones and the light blue ones.

Yep, gold old days of non-ethanol "real" gas, loud header exhausts, and most all had manual transmissions. Good times!

Yeah, my '83 up there (aka "Hungry Hound") has the 258 bored .060 over, headers, full dual exhaust, hi-torque cam, DUI ignition and the Weber 38-38 outlaw carb. Runs at least as good as the 304 V-8 if not better offroad.

Mine had the AMC401, bored to about a 410, w/ printed heads, Offenhauser Dual Port manifold (one of the best designed street manifolds for the time), Holley 650 (replaced w/ Holly projection). It was a hoot!!!
