Bought this ’80 CJ5 new as soon as I had the bucks. In line 6cyl would get me 14-19 mpg. It would eventually get up to 55 mph on the highway, and this time of year the heat wouldn’t keep up with all the draft. Capable off the shelf as can be, never left me walkin’ Reason why I returned to the fold now!

Ya i remember going to school freezing my azz off cause the soft top was a little breezy, plus my floor boards were really rusted out gone lol

Winters were something but I loved being able to get everywhere when it snowed. If I had any sense I would have gotten the CJ-7. Somehow we took a lot of road trips and camping outings with the CJ-5 and even moved boxes and light furniture once into our new apartment at the time. Kids.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Here is my '78 CJ-5 with Chevy 350. Only paid $400. for it but it was VERY rough. Took a lot of work to get it on the road and trail.

Most fun vehicle I've ever owned.
Nice! Those old Mickey Thompsons were some tough tires, I had some Baja Belted and Baja King sets back in the day, very high end tires for the time.

Yes, I really liked the Claws. Had them and the Baja Belted on my '79 K10.

TBH I kinda miss the humming of the large Bias Ply tires, could always hear what's coming from a block away :)

My 80’ CJ-5 came new with the Levi’s denim seats. Looked good
Didn't those have a Levi logo on the side of the body too??

I had an 85 CJ7, with the straight 6. I too regret selling it almost daily.
I had a buddy that bought one right after high school and we did some CRAZY stuff in it. I replaced a few u-joints, clutch, serviced the transmission, transfer case, axles, and rebuilt the carburetor on it for him. Those were the days of 31" tires being king. It was orange with a tan top and I came SO close to buying it from him.

Yep, bought mine right out of highschool too, and got in all sorts of trouble in it. It came on 31’s too.

I remember that too, mine didn’t have it though. Wonder if it came along later?
