Broken into - sliced soft top

Local police to me said most criminals will still bust a window or cut it out vs opening an unlocked door. They don’t want the light coming on inside the vehicle. Or risk an alarm going off. If they are just taking items and not the whole vehicle then they can crawl in and then leave. Breaking a window isn’t that loud. A spark plug (or similar small hard object) in a sock. Swing hard and window breaks. Push it in and crawl in. Makes a dull thump on impact. Even those spring loaded window spikes aren’t that loud.

A lot of these thieves do try the door handles first, this has been shown in surveillance videos time and time again (at least in residential neighborhoods). However, that being said, they arent very sophisticated and are looking for anything to trade or sell for their next high, so don't expect them to act rationally. There isn't a single pattern to follow when dealing with somebody with a fried mind.

I have never heard of an insurance company denying a claim for an unlocked door and that is probably bs, like you said anyway how would they prove it.

I have seen how pathetic these large crime friendly cities have become where you see a street of parked cars with the windows down and liftgates up so the passerby doesn't bust out a window looking for something to steal. Makes the blood boil.

Hopefully you can get a replacement window and I imagine it will cost less than a deductible, so won't be worth the claim and then the insult to injury of your next policy renewal jumping more than the cost of the window.

funny story . while i was viet nam 1970 my 67 camaro was parked in the back yard. some kid who lived down the street stole my 8 trac player and box of tapes. my brother and his friend walked down the street and threw a concert block thru his windshield . the cops showed up at my parents house ,we lived right across from the chief of police . they told my brother not to do that again.

Interesting story. You gotta get past the advertisement, but then look at this story that happened to a fellow Jeep owner (Gladiator). Don't really think it matters if its soft top or hard top.

Its a shame... these kids would of died attacking 2a supporters. A quick buck isn't worth your life... THIEVES SUCK.

Ugh. After an 8 month wait for my order which just arrived in March, my Besttop soft top was already sliced into. Nothing was taken because anything was in the locked glove box or my Tuffy console lockbox (kudos to them).

Anyone know what I’ll be in for here? How hard is it to buy just a window for the besttop trektop? I reached out to them but with it being a weekend I’m just hoping to see if anyone here has an idea, and to share my pain.

Thank god it wasn’t the half door uppers, because I’ve heard those are unobtanium

That sucks. I don’t lock my Jeep, in part to avoid this. I keep nothing of value in it. Also, it’s a manual so I have an extra layer of anti-theft protection.

Hopefully you can get a new window, soon. At least they left it hanging so you can tape it up for now.

That's like me. I don't lock it. I'd rather they just open it up.
They can rummage around and find nothing of real value. And then good luck to the would-be thief on driving away with the manual.

Just replace the window, park in the same place, put something valuable looking in there. You and a few friends dress in all black and hide in the bushes. When they come back, ambush them with paintball guns until they fall down then just light them up in the face point blank range for 80-100 rounds. Immediately pour tattoo ink on their face. They'll be nice and bloodied up, shamed to high heaven and will have their face tattooed with welts for days and ink forever.

I challenge your insurance company to come up with a more fun solution than that.

I hope you will then feel satisfied while you sit in jail on assualt charges

Talked to a buddy who is a cop about this exact thing. Friend of mine had packages stolen from his front porch at 2pm on a saturday. Crystal clear video of the lowlife stealing them. Cops picked him up which was easy bc he just walks around downtown all day stealing shit. I even have the guy on clear dash cam video crossing the street in front of me a few days later. They couldnt hold him, he promised to give everything back so they released him. Couple of buddies and I floated the above plan and he said it was in fact a great plan as these trash pandas aren't exactly the type of people to voluntarily walk into a police station to file misdemeanor assult charges... ?

It is assault plain and simple unless you were physically threatened and feared bodily harm. Then the fact you you planned your assault futher heightens the case for the theif against you. In your home is one thing on your property or public space is another. Thieves do not go to jail these days however assault and injur someone (including a thief) and it is mandetory. Note" all paint guns come with a warning that protective gear shold be warn to prevent injury. That thief has no protective gear, you could easily do permanent and harmful damage to the theif which is Assault/Battery with a weapon. While I am not defending the thief for thier actions this is common sense law. (I am a retired law enforcement).

While it would feel rewarding the sad truth is a smart thief will claim injury and you are not only criminally responsible but finacially liable for all injuries. It is a Gansta's Paridise these days...
