Just wanted to put my knowledge of the issue on here.

I know people who work for FCA and PPG (paint supplier) and this is a known issue that’s affecting a good amount of Bright White JL’s built between January and July 2018. Yellowing seems to be in the same spot on all of them [drivers side headlight area and drivers side fender near the grill]
Thanks for your knowledge. You would be doing a lot people on this thread a big favor if you could find out through your PPG contact just exactly what kind of finish is getting sprayed on the Bright White grill.

Unfortunately my PPG contact has only given me very limited information, as it’s an ongoing investigation as to the cause of the yellowing. This is what I know:

-Grill assembly is shipped to TNAP already painted from the supplier
-The yellowing seems to be in the same area in all cases (upper right hand portion of the grill, near the driver’s side headlight)
-All models affected
-They can’t replicate the yellowing in the lab, so it may not be heat/UV/etc. but rather some sort of contamination during assembly in TNAP

I’m speaking with my PPG contact tomorrow, so I’ll see what else I can get

Has anyone gone in for a warranty claim and had it painted a different color? I'd rather paint it satin black and be done with it.

CHECK IT OUT! Mine is doing it too! I only have 1500 miles on mine and she's only 2 months old... It is getting more yellow by the day. It seems to be more noticeable on the drivers side. I don't even want to put it out in the sun! I don't mind getting a tan just not the grill on my Jeep!!! Will see what the dealer has to say when i take it in.

EXACT same problem. Brand new, 2018 Jeep JL with 230 miles on it. We have not even filled up with gas since taking ownership. Front driver's side around the headlight (grill and fender) started yellowing. Dealer's recommendation was to repaint. I won't allow that. I bought a new car and the second paint job is *NEVER* the same. It is a second layer and it will chip and peal in the long run. Dealer said it would have a lifetime warranty EXCEPT for CHIPPING. That is because it is known that a second layer of paint is more susceptible to chipping.

This is a brand new Jeep with less than 300 miles on it. The JL is the top of the line in trim and this is unacceptable. Please take the time to do as I did and report the issue to NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

If the engine is producing enough heat to discolor the paint, it's ultimately going to be a safety issue. Jeep needs to stand behind their products, find a fix to this problem that is widespread (look at all the people on this thread), recall the vehicles or at the very least, inform their dealers of how to fix the issue as a warranty repair. That all of us know this and our dealers do not is inexcusable.

Very important - this is not a dealership issue. My dealership is bending over backwards to help. This is a production quality issue and Jeep needs to stand behind their product and educate their dealers on a proper fix.

What is your build date?
Not sure. It's at the dealership now and the paperwork is in the glove box. It's been to the dealership three times in two days. Unfortunately, while trying to repair it, they damaged the front bumper and right front fender and are telling us that it could be up to four weeks before they can fix it. To put this in perspective - I haven't made my first payment on it yet.

I appreciate the dealer trying to work with us. But what's transpired because I told them I don't want it repainted is that they took a fender from a 2019 (with LED lights) and installed it on our 2018. That threw off message center warnings about the blinker being inoperable. They took parts from another JL on the lot to repair the front bumper they scratched during the initial repair. Side fender has been off and on three times now and the last one they installed has a defect too. Front bumper replaced. It's like our brand new jeep was in an accident.

Whenever we get it back, I'll let you know the build date as it should help everyone on the thread.

Also as an update, I called Jeep Care, have a case and made them aware of this entire thread of Jeep owners reporting the same. They noted the URL I gave them in the file and my issue has already been escalated according to them.

1009 miles on my 18 bright white JLUR...... Same exact yellowing issue drivers side grill by hood and fender as well.

Build date = August

(Also having steering issues...jeep came way out of alignment, fixed alignment, but there is still a pretty large dead spot in steering - Dealer seems open to helping me but wants me to leave the jeep there for a week)

PM sent with requested details (VIN, Phone, Dealer et al)

Hi ALEX-4LO,
This is not what we hope to hear from our customers. We suggest returning to your selling dealer to have this looked into as soon as possible. Please send us a PM with additional details as well.

Hey @JeepCares Mine is doing the same thing as others in the thread. Since you want the yellowing grills back, how about you just send me a new one with a shipping label to send you the old one back? That way I don't have to deal with the stress of the dealership not wanting to deal with the problem, or blaming my winch for it turning yellow like they blame the Mopar lift for death wobble....

Hi ABar112,

I'm sorry to hear this is happening with your Jeep, and I understand your frustrations. In order to have this addressed per the terms of your warranty, you will need to work with a certified Jeep dealership. We'd be happy to step in if you have any concerns once you visit them - just PM us any time.

Just checked my white 2018 Rubicon with 300 miles. It's turning yellow too.
