Was offroading at Windrock last weekend and noticed I was getting a lot of brake squeal. I figured it was because of riding the brakes so much on the trails.
Fast forward one week and now I am getting light squeal all the time on light braking and it appears to be coming from passenger front. Haven't' had time to poke around yet but has anyone else experienced this and what might be the cause on such new brakes?

Funny thing....I am also about 23K miles and have started hearing the beginnings of a squeal as well. I am thinking on the rain and subsequent rust are a contributor but interested to find out. Hope it doesn't get worse.

I was at Windrock as well last weekend. My brakes were squealing and moaning like a mofo on the trails. Most likely it was from the mud and water you go through what seems like every 20 feet there. Are you sure you got everything cleaned off your wheels and calipers? You may have some dirt or rocks still in there somewhere. That said, my brakes will sometimes moan during low speed braking. My JK also did this, but much worse.

Sounds like we had the same experience there and now back on road. I'll have to poke around to make sure they are all clean. I blasted those suckers hard though. I think I am going to do a bed in process on them and see if that resolves it.

This is your most likely culprit from a day of wheeling. It will work its way out eventually if you can't locate it to remove.

The brakes on these JLs are known to squeal when wet and cold.
Taking mine to the dealer for its first oil change/rotation and I'm asking about the squeaky brakes on mine.

I did that, dealer "couldn't replicate". Also couldn't see the clear rings forming around my discs, front passenger side. Unless they have a tool to bypass wheel locks they didn't take those off to check either.
I work inside a 15mph campus with a dozen or so mandatory stop signs. Trying to slow from 15 to stop seems to be the worse noise for me.
I;m only a little over 4k, some dusty roads and snow.

Hi TekSupt,

Although we cannot necessarily change the diagnosis you were given, are you thinking you'd like to get a second opinion? Send us a direct message if you'd like to take this route. We'd be happy to help with that process.

My 2019 JLUS brakes are starting to squeal at low speeds, mostly when cold but not always. Seems to go away after the 2nd to 4th brake application. Seems like the rear but not 100% sure. My clutch sensor has failed so my ESS failure light goes off after a few shifts everytime, they are fixing that next week, changing oil, and now I'm going to ask them to lube the caliper slides to help with the squeal. I have also noticed over the last month that my brake pedal is squishier than normal, and when I let up and gently press again, it's very firm. At day 1 it was always firm. Something else to have them look at... I love the jeep but I'm highly annoyed with these problems at <5k miles for $40k price tags.

Sqeaul was getting worse, at 9k miles now. WEnt to dealer to fix some other warranty problems and asked them to remove and clean both sides of pad surfaces and caliper slides. They just blew compressed air and sprayed brake-cleen on it without taking the wheels off. Didn't fix it of course, I left pissed and cleaned them myself at home that night, no more squeal. I dislike it when dealers don't listen to customers...

LOL... you're surprised? IMO dealers don't like being told what to do "they know better"... yeah, if the dealers would read this forum there'd be a lot less pissed Jeep owners out there :)

You asked them to clean your brake pads? And you're angry about how they went about it? Their solution seems more than reasonable to me. Just because a customer asks something to be done a certain way doesn't make it correct or reasonable. Brakes are a wear item and are subjected to an incredible amount of dirt, grime heat and stress. Especially on a Jeep. I'm sure other customers patiently waiting for service would be thrilled to learn that you had requested a brake pad cleaning and that was why they had to wait an extra hour.
I'm all about calling out the dealer when the do something moronic, but come on.
