i know, old thread, but... has anyone been able to locate a y-adapter wiring harness for the third brake light cable? the wires connect to the base of the light with a little snap on plug. I'm hesitant to tap into the wires because FCA warranty, and y-adapter would solve that concern. thanks
@HoundDude

To my knowledge there is no plug in adapter.

Just use two saddle clamps. The wires you will be clamping into are not heavy gauge, so when you squeeze down on the saddle back connector pins, squeeze/clamp down gently til contact... don't get crazy and cut through the wire.

Also, do not cut the connector that goes into the third 3rd brake light off the end, even if you think you will never use that stock connector again.

As far as warranty... 2 simple splices into that 2 wire affair, will not be an issue.

I paid $49.99 at CJ Pony Parts. (It's more expensive now.) I removed the OEM light and spliced in some quick connects in case I change my mind or have trouble with inspection in a few years.

looking good! I picked up the same light, just need to put my big boy pants on and decide how I want to handle the wiring. I added extra brake lights to my 4Runner without hesitation (but I knew I wouldn't need the warranty). I'll get this done.

Let us know how you wire it up. I thought about it for a week before deciding on using quick-connects.

Your build is great, exactly what I am looking for! Do you have any instructions or suggestions on how to make these? Or do you happen to sell them now?

How does one splice in quick-connects?
I installed the Rugged Ridge brake light ring. Note that the Quadratec version (released a month or so ago) comes with a "Y" wiring harness for plug-and-play installation. If you want to use both the brake light ring and the OEM center brake light, I suggest looking into the Quadratec version.

That said... I wanted to remove the OEM center brake light/bracket and only use the brake light ring. I removed the bracket and cut the original wiring leading into the bracket. I used heat shrink solder sleeve butt connectors to join these waterproof connectors (purchased on eBay) to the original wiring. While I was at it, I added a quick connect to the wires leading into the OEM bracket so that I could easily reattach the OEM brake light if they give me a hard time when I get the Jeep inspected. Quick and easy.

I installed the quadratec with the y adapter today. Took me 20 mins and only tools needed were a t-25 bit and a tire iron to remove spare. No cutting, splicing, tape. Plug n play.

Quadratec finally started shipping theirs. Was on backorder for a while.
Got mine today as well.
"Y" connector makes it truly plug-n-play.
Works with brake lights only.
