Hello all! New to the forum. I recently purchased my first ever wrangler roughly 2 months ago, a 2018 punkn orange rubicon 6 speed with 45 miles on the clock. I’m at roughly 6800 miles now, but if it has sat for 1 day or sometimes even less, blue smoke will pour out when it starts. Don’t get me wrong, I love this thing, But having this happen on top of smaller issues(unconnect freezing, loose/rattling speakers, loose/play in steering(every tire is at 37 psi), slightly rough idle sometimes, I’m wondering if I should just trade it in and move on. Any help would be appreciated concerning the blue smoke. I’ve searched the forum for the other issues! Thank you

Blue smoke is usually an indication of burning oil. Others have reported similar problem.

Hello TMil,

We're sorry to hear this happening to Jeep! Have you had a chance to make an appointment with your dealer? If you decide to schedule an appointment with your dealer, we can provide an additional layer of assistance while in service.

I would take it to the dealer service dept and explain what's going on and let them deal with it they will get their zone rep involved . If they can't fix it right ask them to do a buy back . Cut and dry .

you have to at least give the dealer a chance to fix it. IF that doesn't work then I'd think about moving on.

I posted this in another thread, but I had a similar problem that progressed to power loss and smoke while driving. Dealer believes it is leaking fuel injectors. Will update after fix to inform of success/failure.

Im also having a puff of blue smoke during startup.
3kmi on a 2019 with 3.6.
Im giving it some more time for break in before diving into a stealership because i already know its going to be a terrible experience.

Interesting this was just posted. I have 8K miles and just yesterday, noticed some light blue smoke for about 20 seconds on startup. It’s never happened before. I have stated it twice since and it hasn’t happened again. Will monitor.....

Is it blue smoke or white gray smoke? In humid climates, the exhaust will build up condensation and they will smoke until it steams off.

True Blue smoke at startup usually occurs from a bad valve stem seal. Oil runs down the valve guides from the heads into the combustion chamber. This is highly unusual on a modern engine-/especially the 3.6. Can’t speak for the 2.0.

If the dealer can’t find an issue, switch to straight synthetic oil on the next change. Synthetic Oil won’t smoke. Monitor oil consumption. If oil consumption is within specs with synthetic, you don’t have a problem.

If you are running synthetic, you will never see oil smoke. Straight synthetic does not burn blue smoke. Used car guys used it to make 3 liter mitsubishi’s In Caravsns with bad valve seals quit mosquito fogging at red lights. It just doesn’t smoke.

I had an 06 BMW 3 series that was eating oil without smoke. Used 9 quarts between Houston and Dallas. Service manager called BS as there was no oil smoke. I reminded him it was synthetic oil and his comment was oil shit in need to scope the cylinders. End of the story I had two bad cylinders out of 6 and the bought the car back and sent it to Engineering for evaluation.

The smoke thing is a wives tale.
Synthetic smokes blue just like conventional. Synthetics are still made from crude.
I have a $50k jeep burning some right now as proof and it can be googled and youtubed.
But this isnt an oil thread...more of a "why does my brand new jeep smoke at all?"

I just noticed the smoke this morning..unreal...its all ready going to the dealership for the uconnect, where I know nothing is going to be founded or fixed, but at least its going to get documented right?? but what does that solve....now the smoke.. I did get an oil change there over a month ago, maybe an over fill??? those stories are all over the forum, amazing that the brands own dealerships are over filling at oil changes...Ive tried time and time again with my JLUR, for the 4 months I've had it, its been nothing but walking on egg shells and excuses, i never had that any of these problems or worries with my JKU sport, I was "never" on the forums looking up problems, I never questioned my steering or had squeaky brakes every day, or ever once lift the hood to pull fuses because of the radio...honestly I think were all screwed because jeep is fully dedicated to the gladiator, more worried about being best in class in the pick up world, and instead let their "bread winner" the actual "JEEP" take a back seat when it comes to priorities.. the jeep has been out two years now...but let the comments and the excuses come in..and my all time favorite (the ones who chime in with there 0 problems), that's cool just throw salt on the wounds to the rest of us....
